Owner blows up Tesla Model S electric car for refusing to pay more than 20 euros for a new battery

Tesla Model S electric car is dynamited by its owner. He gave the reasons for his decision, filmed it, uploaded it to YouTube and then cleaned the place up.

There are different ways to channel anger, and while any method that includes violence is never the best way, there are people who do things a little more daring. This seems to be the case for a Finn named Tuomas Katainen, who bought a Tesla Model S in 2013 and, after using it for about 1.500 kilometers, began to suffer from vehicle malfunctions, which were noticed with alerts and messages on the onboard screen.

According to reports of this curious news, the problem arose when taking his car to an official Tesla agent, leaving him almost a month to review the problems he presented, and receiving as a response that the battery had to be replaced and that, as the car was no longer under warranty, he would have to disburse more than 20.000 euros to do so, the equivalent of about R$ 127 thousand.

Mr. Tuomas Katainen with a lot of anger and imagination involved decided, instead of repairing it, to take the car with a truck and take it without the battery, to express his indignation with the situation, making it fly through the air with 30 kg of dynamites.

But for that, he got in touch with a team of YouTubers from the Pommijätkät channel and agreed to make a great event that would give a lot of views to the video uploaded to the channel and maybe even generate more income for the Tesla owner. And they did. In a week since it was published, the video already has almost 4 million views.

The show, with almost cinematic characteristics, was held in a quarry in southern Finland. This location was chosen because the natural walls of the place where the car would explode would be a containment for the shock wave. Being in the middle of winter, snow was also present in the place.

Yes, they had several different quality cameras to record the moment from various angles, including a camera on a crane and a drone. The cameras and people were protected by trenches built to protect them. And the car was prepared with specialists in controlled explosions, with 30 kilograms of dynamite, placed in different places of the car, to generate a spectacular visual effect.

One wheel was intact and attached to Tesla Model S suspensions

The Tesla electric car disintegrated into thousands of different-sized fragments, although some parts, such as one of the wheels with its suspension, were left in one piece. With no batteries, the explosion did not cause spills of toxic substances and, once the event was over, the team was in charge of completely cleaning the place and leaving it in the same conditions as before the explosion.

Elon Musk and Tesla will likely get the message. They, who are so adept at handling direct marketing, could surprise everyone with an answer in the next few days. The publicity is not good, of course, but it doesn't cause any major damage because it is an electric car, about which there are some doubts about its safety in case of fire in an accident. This was a provoked explosion and would have been the same in a car with an internal combustion engine. In any case, what will have to be revised is the after-sales service, at least in Finland.

Tesla Sedan electric car worth R$ 650 bursts into flames after 3 days of use and arrests owner after electronic doors fail

A Tesla Model S Plaid EV caught fire on June 29, 2021, in Pennsylvania while the owner was driving, three days after the $129.900 top-of-the-line car was delivered after its June launch, a lawyer for the driver told Reuters.

The driver, identified as an "executive businessman", was initially unable to get out of the car because his electronic door system failed, prompting the driver to "use force to push it open", said Mark Geragos, of Geragos & Geragos, last Friday (02/07/2021). The company did not immediately comment when contacted by Reuters.

O chief executive Tesla's Elon Musk hailed the performance version of his Model S sedan as being "faster than any Porsche, safer than any Volvo" at a launch event at the automaker's Freemont, Calif., factory last month. In early April, he said the new Model S sedan and Model X sport utility vehicle had a new battery.

"It took quite a bit of development to make sure the new S/X's battery is safe," Musk said on a conference call, addressing production delays. “There were more challenges than expected in developing the new version.”

The agency is investigating alleged defects that could cause fires in Tesla sedans and SUVs, including older Model S and Model X vehicles, a probe that opened in 2019.

The fire bore a resemblance to previous Tesla fires, where there was an electrical or smoky smell followed by a popping sound, and the owner was trapped in the vehicle after its electronics failed. The Washington Post reported a similar series of events in Frisco, Texas, in November.
