The investment for the production of green hydrogen in the Port of Suape and Pecém in the northeast aims to contribute to the renewable fuel and clean energy industry
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the Port of Suape (PE) and the Port of Pecém (CE) are being considered to receive foreign investments worth BRL 10 billion for the production of green hydrogen (H2V ). This news represents an opportunity for the two northeastern ports to become involved in international cooperation in this important field, according to the website Economic News Brasil.
Senator Fernando Dueire (MDB-PE) is working together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, to ensure the inclusion of the Port of Suape and Pecém in the international cooperation agenda on the subject. They recently met to discuss the next steps in this process.
The interest and need for international investments in the subject in the Port of Suape and Pecém is no coincidence. Hydrogen is widely considered by experts and researchers as the fuel of the future, especially in its sustainable form. Is important highlight that Brazil occupies the position of third largest producer of renewable energy globally, behind only the United States and China. Therefore, the investment in the Port of Suape and Pecém would be a more than positive point for Brazil.

The use of renewable fuels
The growing demand for clean and renewable energy sources has driven the development and use of hydrogen as a promising alternative. Its versatility, storage capacity and potential for carbon-free energy production have aroused the interest of several industry sectors, including transport, electricity generation and the chemical industry.
With a diversified energy matrix and rich in natural resources, Brazil has a fundamental role to play play in the transition towards a more sustainable economy. The country has significant potential for the production and export of green hydrogen, taking advantage of its renewable resources, such as solar and wind energy, in addition to having a vast knowledge and expertise in the production of biofuels.
With the possibility of investments in the green hydrogen sector at the Port of Suape and Pecém, Brazil has the opportunity to further strengthen its position as a leader in the production of renewable energy and boost the country's sustainable development.
The northeast region and its importance for the production of green hydrogen
The Northeast region of Brazil is concentrating a great interest in relation to green hydrogen (H2V). The region seeks to establish itself as a production hub due to its high potential for solar and wind energy generation, in addition to the strategic location of the Port of Suape and Pecém in relation to the European market.
Senator Dueire, a member of the Federal Senate's Special Commission on Green Hydrogen, continues to advance in his work in this area. He has a new hearing scheduled with the Secretary of Energy, Climate and Environment of the Ministry, André Corrêa do Lago, to discuss the next steps and initiatives related to green hydrogen in the Port of Suape and Pecém.
According to Dueire: “Combining the investments of the European Community with the work that we are doing in the commission to regulate and encourage the production of this energy in the country will be decisive for the sector. And having the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a partner in this joint work is very important”.
