Porto do Açú 5th Maritime Agents Meeting
Lecture participants at Porto do Açú for waterway operations

The lecture called Maritime Port Community at Porto do Açu addressed relevant topics for the waterway traffic sector

Sao Joao da Barra, November 13th – Yesterday, the 12th, Porto do Açu promoted the 5th Meeting of Maritime Agents at the undertaking, in São João da Barra. Professionals from maritime agencies that already work in the Complex, operators that work in the terminals installed in the enterprise or in port support companies (tugs, pilotage boats, service boats) were present at the event. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together the various actors involved in the port's operations even more and update them on the current scenario at Açu.

In the lecture “Maritime Port Community in Porto do Açu”, relevant topics were addressed, such as: VTS/VTMIS traffic control system used in Porto do Açu and Port Regulations – attributions and facilities for Açu users. The meeting also addressed day-to-day issues for maritime agents who work in the Complex.

Açu has had VTS controlling waterway traffic since 2015 and, according to Mario Rodrigues, Navigation Manager at Porto do Açu, the company has been sharing its experience with other Brazilian ports interested in absorbing the best monitoring practices in their terminals.

“As the first Brazilian port to have the VTS, we remain committed to keeping our monitoring system always up to date, using the best technologies and enabling maximum maritime safety. Considering only the year 2019, we should reach the mark of 6.000 maneuvers monitored by the VTS without any accidents. The maritime agent's understanding of the VTS functionalities is essential for the dissemination of the concept of safety in maritime operations”.

Port of Açu's specialist in Maritime Operations, Rogerio Oeda, spoke about the satisfaction of hosting the 5th edition of this meeting: “I think it is essential that the meetings continue to take place, always mixing information about the Complex and promoting networking.

The Complex has new numbers, new businesses and lots of information to share. We make a point of keeping everyone up-to-date, contributing to a closer relationship between shipping agents and enterprise professionals,” he concluded.
