PUC-Rio celebrates 60 years of postgraduate studies in electrical engineering with special event
In a landmark celebration, the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) at PUC-Rio honored its 60 years of significant contribution to postgraduate studies in Electrical Engineering. The event, held on December 6th at the Padre Anchieta Auditorium, symbolized not only the academic recognition of the research led by the department since 1963, but also its ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence.
A legacy of innovation and partnership
The DEE postgraduate course at PUC-Rio, with an impressive rating of 6 by CAPES in the area of Engineering IV, is positioned at the academic forefront, being one of the 14 best programs in Brazil and one of the two most prominent in Rio de Janeiro. January. This program, rich in history and achievements, collaborates closely with development agencies and leading companies, with projects ranging from the oil and gas sector to important initiatives focused on the energy transition, digital transformation and telecommunications.
The meeting featured lectures by representatives from CAPES, PSR, TIM Brasil, Holistic AI and Thymos Energia, highlighting the deep partnership between academia and industry. Prof. Délberis Lima, director of DEE, highlighted the trajectory and impact of the program, emphasizing not only its longevity, but also the influence of the department's professors in the creation and evolution of other programs at PUC-Rio.
Success trajectory and academic impact
Since the creation of the Academic Master's Degree in 1963, followed by the Doctorate in 1981, DEE's postgraduate program has graduated almost 1.400 masters and more than 400 doctors. Research in the program covers areas such as Applied Electromagnetism, Decision Support Methods, Signal Processing, Automation and Robotics, Communication Systems and Electrical Power Systems.
DEE is not only limited to collaborations with traditional development agencies, such as CAPES, CNPq and FAPERJ, but also accumulates a series of projects sponsored by renowned companies, such as Petrobras, Repsol, Telebrasil, Ericson, BNDES, Energisa, FGV, EDP , among others. This interaction with important international universities and the quality of scientific production, highlighted by publications in high-impact journals, highlight the department's global recognition.
Recognition and future perspectives
The department's achievements were enthusiastically celebrated by event participants, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between university and industry. Speakers such as Luiz Barroso from PSR and alumnus Adriano Koshiyama, co-CEO of Holistic AI, Inc., recognized the crucial importance of PUC-Rio's DEE in advancing innovation and academic and industrial research in the energy sector.
The Prof. Hypolito José Kalinowski, coordinator of the Engineering IV area at CAPES, praised the program's competence and leadership in the Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering sector, reiterating PUC-Rio's excellence in training future leaders and driving energy transformation in the country.
