Os wind farms in Bahia will be built by Carnaúbal Power Plants (CEC), and will be located in the municipalities of Ibitiara and Novo Horizonte. Second Carla Goncalves, CEC's Legal Director, this celebration marks a significant advance for the continuity of the company's development plan, which has been operating in the region for many years, in addition to expanding the benefits that will be brought to the local community, specifically in terms of job opportunities and income.

“It is worth mentioning that CEC is a company of the CER economic group, which has already implemented more than 350MW of wind energy projects in the State of Bahia, and remains firm in its purpose of developing new renewable energy projects”, said Carla Gonçalves.

Far beyond renewable energy, Bahia has investments in several other sectors

According to the Economic Development Secretary of Bahia, José Nunes, between the months of January and September, 124 Protocols of Intent for investments were signed with the Government of Bahia, among which are the wind complexes. A total of BRL 38 billion in private investment is expected as a result of these agreements.

Still according to the secretary, the installation of 39 of these undertakings so far resulted in investments of R$ 1,7 billion and in the generation of more than 5 thousand jobs in several municipalities in Bahia. Along with the protocols already signed, there is the implementation of two wind farms in the near future. It is essential to highlight the fact that Brazil is today considered on a global scale as one of the main places in the world for the production of renewable energies, such as wind, solar and biomass. Bahia is one of the states with the greatest potential for all these different types of renewable sources of energy in the country.

Bahia is a national leader in wind and solar energy generation

In May of this year, 2022, Bahia once again became the national leader in wind energy generation, with 32,16% of production, and solar energy, with 30,89%. According to SDE, the potential for wind energy production is impacted by several elements, including seasonality, climate, vegetation and topographic characteristics.

In the state of Bahia, there are already 227 wind farms in operation with a total installed capacity of 5,9 GW. These wind farms required an investment of BRL 23 billion and resulted in the generation of more than 89 jobs in the construction phase alone.
