SBM Offshore guarantees financing for the construction of an FPSO that will operate for Petrobras in the Mero field

Dutch FPSO supplier SBM Offshore has closed a US$600 million bridge loan to finance the construction of FPSO Sepetiba (formerly known as Mero 2) intended for activities for Petrobras.

SBM Offshore reported that the loan was guaranteed by the special purpose group that owns the FPSO Sepetiba and was agreed with a consortium of four international banks. SBM Offshore is the majority owner of this group (64,5%), along with Mitsubishi Corporation (20%) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (15,5%).

In December 2019, SBM Offshore signed contracts with Petrobras for the 22,5-year lease and operation of the FPSO. The FPSO will be deployed in the Mero field, in the Santos Basin, off the coast of Brazil.

After the launch of FPSO Sepetiba, another two FPSOs with the same capacity are expected to be added, subject to partner approvals, according to Petrobras.
