The Permanent Home Office Model Petrobras Can Help Reduce Costs Through the Optimization of Administrative Building Occupation

Petrobras had already determined that it would remain in home office until the end of the year and evaluate a model to maintain telecommuting after December. Starting on September 1, employees will be able to signal to HR if they want to adhere to the new home office model for up to three days.
The option is not mandatory, and the professional can indicate a lesser frequency or even change their mind in the future.

But the executive HR manager, Cláudio Costa, says that the expectation is for high adherence from the team. According to an internal survey with 13,400 employees, about 86% rated the teleworking experience as excellent or good, and 82% are interested in adopting home office work for up to three days.
While the reduction of office space is still a future plan, Petrobras is aiming for a capacity of 50% of staff in person.
According to Petrobras’ report, “The early approval reflects the moment of cultural and digital transformation that Petrobras is undergoing and the commitment to listen to the needs of workers, who are increasingly seeking to reconcile professional and personal life, make better use of their time, and greater flexibility. The permanent model may also help in reducing costs through the optimization of administrative building occupation.”
“There will be a reduction in costs for the company, there is no doubt, but our objective with the decision was much more about efficiency, with the observed increase in quality of life, productivity, and engagement,” explains Cláudio Costa.
In the survey, 60% of employees said that productivity increased during the quarantine period, and 34% saw maintenance of productivity. Among the advantages of working from home, employees pointed to the lower risk of exposure to Covid-19 (92%), the absence of commuting to the office (91%), and better quality of life (64%).
The Petrobras measure will apply to all administrative employees, even those linked to operational areas. In total, there are 28,500 employees spread across Brazil who will have the option to work from home.
