Traditional Models Leave Dealerships Due to New Environmental Regulations, Sales Below Expected, and Strategic Changes from Manufacturers in the Brazilian Market
The Brazilian automotive market has barely started 2026 and is already undergoing a period of profound transformations. While manufacturers announce billion-dollar investments and project the arrival of up to 70 new models, several significant farewells are happening almost simultaneously. Thus, attentive consumers are beginning to wonder: is my car on the list of models being discontinued in 2026?
The information was released by “Autoesporte,” which compiled a special survey of vehicles that have already left the market and pointed out others that are expected to say goodbye to dealerships by the end of 2026. According to the publication, the reasons are varied. On one hand, there are models with sales below expectations. On the other, there are cases of brand restructuring and, primarily, the impact of the new emission standards from Proconve L8, which required deep technical modifications in various engines.
Consequently, traditional models and even niche vehicles began to face difficulties in adapting. In some cases, manufacturers opted to cease production rather than invest in complex mechanical updates.

Mitsubishi L200 and Pajero Sport Close Historic Cycles
Among the models that officially left the market in 2026 is the Mitsubishi L200, one of Brazil’s most traditional mid-size pickups. Initially imported, the L200 arrived in the country in 1991, shortly after the market was reopened, still in its second generation. Later, in 1998, it began being produced locally with the inauguration of the Mitsubishi factory in Catalão (GO).
Since then, the pickup has gone through several generational changes. In 2007, it adopted the name L200 Triton, and now, in 2026, it has become simply Triton, within a completely different lineage. Therefore, the name L200 officially leaves the Brazilian market.
Still within Mitsubishi, another model that said goodbye is the Pajero Sport. Based on the old L200, the SUV was imported from Thailand and used a 2.4 turbo diesel engine. However, the setup did not meet the new requirements of Proconve L8. As a result, without the necessary updates, the brand was prevented from launching the 2026 line, ending the sales of the last units of year/model 2025 at the beginning of the year.
It is worth noting that the Pajero arrived in Brazil in its Full version in 1991 and debuted in the Pajero Sport variant in 1998. A new generation is in development abroad and may arrive in the country between 2027 or 2028, but the launch has not yet been confirmed by HPE, Mitsubishi’s representative in Brazil.
Hybrid SUVs, Brands at Risk, and Markup on End of Stock
Another name that left the market is the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, a plug-in hybrid version imported from the United States. The model combined a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine with 272 hp and 40.5 kgfm of torque with two electric motors powered by a 17.4 kWh battery. In total, it delivered 380 hp and 64 kgfm, with an electric range of 29 km. Despite the advanced technology, the model has left the national portfolio.
In addition, the end of the Subaru Forester practically seals Subaru’s farewell from Brazil. Represented by the Caoa group, the brand no longer has vehicles for sale, and there is no forecast for new batches. In November of last year, in an interview with Autoesporte, presidents Carlos Philippe Luchesi de Oliveira Andrade and Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Andrade Filho stated that they were still negotiating with headquarters in search of a solution.
At Suzuki, the small Jimny Sierra also left the market. The jeep is no longer featured on the brand’s website, and its end was already expected. The main reason was the inability of the 1.5 gasoline engine to meet the Proconve L8 standards. To replace it, the HPE group confirmed the arrival of the electric SUV e-Vitara.
Interestingly, the farewell of the Jimny contrasts with its recent success. The last units were sold with a markup of up to R$ 7,000 above the price list in some stores.
Models Expected to Be Discontinued in 2026
Among the cars that are still for sale but are expected to be discontinued in 2026 is the Nissan Kicks Play. Launched in early 2025 as a renamed variant of the previous generation, the model offers Active Plus, Sense, and Advance Plus versions, all equipped with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine with 113 hp and 15.5 kgfm, always paired with a CVT automatic transmission simulating seven speeds. However, the SUV is expected to make way for the new Kait, which will take its place as the brand’s entry-level SUV.
At Volkswagen, the Amarok is also expected to end production in 2026. Manufactured in Argentina, in General Pacheco, the pickup says goodbye ahead of the arrival of the new generation. The Argentine plant is undergoing modernization with an investment of R$ 3.3 billion, including a novel anti-corrosion protection system for the body.
Therefore, while the sector announces launches and innovations, the number of cars being discontinued in 2026 is growing significantly. The scenario reinforces that the Brazilian automotive market is experiencing an unprecedented technological and strategic transition.
And you, is your car among the models being discontinued, or do you plan to take advantage of the last units before they disappear from dealerships?
