The new Samsung smartphone, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, was presented yesterday as part of the S26 line with an integrated Privacy Screen feature capable of blurring content viewed from the side, aiming to prevent third parties from seeing information displayed on the screen in public environments.

New Samsung Phone Invests in a Display That Limits Side Viewing of the Screen

The new Samsung smartphone incorporates a Privacy Screen system capable of keeping the image clear only for the user positioned directly in front of the device. People observing from the sides automatically see the content blurred.

The feature allows for complete blocking of screen viewing or restricting only specific content. Available options include notifications, selected apps, and sensitive information displayed during everyday use of the device.

According to the device’s presentation, the mode can be activated when the user is entering passwords, PIN codes, or accessing data considered private, including messages and pop-up notifications.

Technology Uses Directional Pixels to Protect Displayed Data

The display operates via a special type of pixel that emits light only in the direction of the user. This mechanism prevents the image from being seen by people positioned outside the front angle of the device.

Unlike traditional adhesive filters, the solution integrated into the new Samsung smartphone obscures viewing from multiple angles. The protection remains active regardless of the device’s orientation, whether in portrait or landscape mode.

According to the company, the technology does not cause any additional reduction in screen brightness, displayed resolution, or battery life during the use of the feature.

Feature Developed to Reduce Practice Known as Screen Observation

Samsung claims that the system was created to combat the increase of crimes associated with screen observation in public places. Criminals have started to record passwords and banking codes by observing victims before stealing the device.

This practice can occur through the use of cameras with long-range lenses or simply by direct observation over the victim’s shoulder while she uses the phone.

After obtaining the information, the criminals steal the device and use the previously captured data to access banking services and bypass two-factor authentication systems sent via message to the victim’s own phone.

New Samsung Phone Offers Configurable Different Levels of Protection

The device allows users to select a mode called Partial Screen Privacy, which automatically limits the viewing of notifications and apps chosen by the user in the system settings.

Another available option is the Maximum Privacy Protection option, which completely hides content displayed to any observer outside the direct usage angle.

According to Samsung, the feature has been in development for five years and represents the first display of its kind applied to a mobile device with pixel-level protection.

Official Statements and User Reactions on Social Media

In a statement to the Daily Mail, the Director of Product and Marketing for Mobile Experience at Samsung in the UK and Ireland stated that the S26 Ultra presents the world’s first Privacy Screen in a smartphone.

According to the executive, the technology limits what others can see laterally, keeping the screen usable for the owner even during activities considered sensitive, such as reading confidential emails or making financial transfers.

On social media, users commented on the arrival of the feature. One participant described the new technology as similar to what is seen in spy movies. Others highlighted the possibility of preventing strangers from viewing PIN codes in public places.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra was launched alongside the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ models, making up the new generation of high-end smartphones presented by Samsung.
