Bernhard Schulte has ordered its first CO2 tanker, a new build at Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore (DSOC) to showcase carbon capture technology and green ports.

The Bernhard Schulte group has ordered a new tanker from liquid CO2 with delivery scheduled for 2026. The ship will be built at Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore (DSOC) and will feature technologies designed to reduce the carbon footprint. With a long-term charter agreement with Northern Lights, the initiative demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.

The new order is the first ship of its type for Bernhard Schulte's fleet and the fourth carrier of liquid carbon dioxide for Northern Lights. The joint venture, which belongs to Shell, TotalEnergies and Equinor, has already ordered three ships, with two under construction at DSOC and a third recently ordered in September this year, strengthening the companies' commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Expansion of Bernhard Schulte's fleet portfolio with a focus on liquid CO2

Ordering this vessel is an exciting step in expanding Bernhard Schulte's fleet portfolio into an innovative future tanker segment. We look forward to being part of the industry-leading Northern Lights project to provide transport and storage infrastructure for Liquid CO2, liquefied carbon dioxide, liquid carbon dioxide, said Ian Beveridge, CEO of Bernhard Schulte.

Strategic partnerships for the transport of liquid CO2

'This agreement marks another important milestone for us. CCS is a safe and efficient way to deal with emissions and is critical to meeting climate goals. We are excited to see Bernhard Schulte now entering the Liquid CO2, liquefied carbon dioxide, liquid carbon dioxide, as solid partnerships are needed to be successful. We strongly believe in tripartite collaboration between Northern Lights JV, DSOC and Bernhard Schulte', he states Børre Jacobsen, General Director of Northern Lights.

Innovative technology to reduce CO2 emissions in maritime transport

Northern Lights is developing a ship-based CO2 transport solution and has implemented innovative technologies in ship design to reduce CO2 emissions from maritime transport. The main fuel for ships will be LNG. Combined with other proven technologies such as wind-assisted rotor sails and air lubrication, the ships will have an around 34% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional ships running on marine fuel.
