The equipment that will be installed by Valmet at the Bracell factory in São Paulo
Valmet's supplies to Bracell's pulp mill, which is scheduled to start operations in the second half of this year, are a black liquor evaporation plant with a capacity for 3,5 tons of evaporated water per hour, a causticizing plant for 31 cubic meters of white liquor per day, two lime kilns fed by biogas with a production capacity of 1.200 tons per day and two biomass gasification plants with a capacity of 87 thermal megawatts each.
In the black liquor evaporation structure, Valmet also supplied the Bracell factory in São Paulo with the technology called TUBEL in the plant's concentrators and first effects. Such technology has the flow of liquor through the external side of the tubes – the most robust and reliable solution on the market, due to its characteristic of not clogging and maintaining the highest availability of the plant. Furthermore, 100% of the capacity of the lime kilns will be supplied by gases from the gasification of biomass, which significantly reduces production costs and CO2 emissions. It is the first time that South America will receive such technology in the sector.
The unit in the state of São Paulo will be one of the most sustainable
Alexandre Figueiredo, Senior Industrial Manager at Bracell São Paulo, the new plant will be one of the largest and most sustainable pulp industries in the world. The project stands out for its sustainable DNA, with advanced technology, without the use of fossil fuels and that uses renewable raw materials to create biodegradable products. Alexandre says that Project Star is a milestone in Bracell's history and goes far beyond a pulp mill. It is the future of the bioindustry bringing the most modern and sustainable features to the sector, he says.
The director of Pulp and Energy at Valmet South America, Fernando Scucuglia says that the biomass gasification system is an innovation in line with the concept of sustainability and energy self-sufficiency of modern pulp production units. The executive also says that this manufacturing line will be the first implemented in South America that will not use fossil fuels in this operation, which brings great pride as a company whose mission is to convert renewable resources into sustainable results.
More details about the Bracell factory, in Lençóis Paulista, in the state of São Paulo
Star Project is an ambitious effort by Bracell to expand its production capacity from the current 250 thousand tons/year of kraft pulp to 1,5 million tons/year of dissolving pulp or up to 3 million tons/year of kraft pulp. Work on expanding the factory has already begun and should be completed by the second half of 2021. The Star Project represents the largest private investment in the state of São Paulo in the last 20 years.
The new factory in Lençóis Paulista will have the best in terms of technology for the sector. It will have two flexible lines designed, primarily, to produce dissolving pulp. The expansion plan will feature the latest technologies aimed at a new generation pulp mill, without the use of fossil fuels. In addition, it will be self-sufficient in energy, and the surplus will supply the National Interconnected System with clean, high-quality energy.
