Niobium Graphene Investment Government

With 64 years of world leadership in niobium technology, CBMM today announced investment in a Singapore company dedicated to Graphene technology

Rio de Janeiro, November 21, 2019 – CBMM (Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração), informed that it signed this Thursday (21) the contract for investments in graphene that will enable the Company to become a minority shareholder of 2DM, a company from Singapore dedicated to graphene technology . The contract signed by the Brazilian company and the company from Singapore reinforces the journey of the world leader in niobium technology in the development of innovative solutions for its customers.

CBMM, located in Araxá-MG, discovered a potential synergy of applications in graphene – since the two-dimensional material can be used in segments common to niobium, such as automotive (including batteries for electric vehicles), construction and infrastructure, electronics applications, between others.

Thanks to decades of investments in its niobium processing and application technology program, CBMM has reached the position of world market leader and has its history directly linked to the development of this metal. It is based on this experience that the Company begins to explore synergistic opportunities for niobium, the element on which its current production is based.

He then decided to invest in the company 2DM, founded within the National University of Singapore, which is the main graphene research center in Asia. The versatile potential of the material, derived from graphite, has been discussed over the years and its capabilities as an industrial additive to improve structural properties have stood out among advanced materials. A protagonist among 2D materials, graphene is recognized for its capabilities as an energy conductor, thermal properties, resistance, lightness, among other characteristics that position it as one of the most promising materials for the next decade.

With this partnership, CBMM's central objective is to take advantage of all possible synergies between graphene and niobium to expand solutions for its customers. The company believes it can contribute through its recognized competencies in the development of materials technology and its applications, market expansion and the development of customers with a global presence.

About CBMM
World leader in the production and supply of niobium products, CBMM was founded in 1955 in Araxá, Minas Gerais. A Brazilian company with headquarters and control in the country, CBMM sells industrialized niobium products worldwide, used mainly in the automotive, infrastructure and oil & gas industries. Through investments in niobium processing technology and applications, in addition to its experience in supplying customers located in more than 50 countries, CBMM directly contributes to the sustainable development of industry and society.
