About 4.000 liters of oil have already been removed from the beaches in Ceará. It is the second event of this type in 2022 in the state alone.
Beaches in the Northeast are being affected by oil spills. The episode reminds the environmental disaster that occurred in 2019. On Saturday, 64 beaches in Ceará were identified as polluted by oil slicks – it is the second event of this type in 2022 in the state alone.

Last Saturday (12/02), only 10 beaches were suitable for swimming in Fortaleza. The most affected beaches in Ceará are in the eastern section, which includes the beaches of Futuro, Serviluz and Sabiaguaba, which were unfit for use.
Around 4 liters of crude oil had been removed from the beaches this weekend. For those looking to cool off, most of the clean beaches are in the central and western portions of the capital.
The oil stains on the beaches of the Northeast refer to the disaster that occurred in 2019
The oil spills on the beaches of the Northeast are reminiscent of the disaster that occurred in 2019, when large volumes of crude oil reached vast areas of the Brazilian coast, and which, to this day, the Navy has not been able to pinpoint the origin or find the culprits for the leaks.
According to the newspaper Sheet, unlike what happened in 2019, the origin of this oil is compatible with the product explored on the Brazilian coast. The finding points to three hypotheses: natural leakage of oil from the bottom of the sea, a process known as exudation; accident in well drilling operation; or accident on an oil transport vessel.
Oil stains on Brazilian beaches have become recurrent. In 2020, oil stains were found on three beaches in Pernambuco and two in Alagoas. In August of last year, oil slicks appeared on beaches in Fernando de Noronha. So far, the Brazilian Navy has not clarified the origin of the leaks, but the main hypothesis reported to the press at the time pointed to ship discards.
