Harvard scientists announce the invention of a battery that promises to last forever after just 10 minutes of charging

Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has just announced a discovery that could change forever the way we see batteries. Scientists at the institution developed a super battery solid-state technology that promises to last forever and be charged in just 10 minutes. This invention has the potential to revolutionize the electric vehicle industry and charge storage, according to the Engenharia 360 website.

Led by Professor Xin Li of the Faculty of Engineering of Applied Sciences, Harvard scientists have developed a battery that uses a lithium metal anode, providing a capacity ten times bigger than traditional batteries with graphite anodes. Additionally, the solid-state battery eliminates the use of liquid electrolyte, making it safer and more reliable.

How does the new technology work?

The technology uses silicon microparticles to prevent dendrite formation, thus extending the useful life (charge) of the battery. The results are impressive: the Harvard battery maintains 80% of its capacity after 6.000 recharge cycles, well above conventional batteries available on the market, which generally support 1.000 to 1.500 cycles.

Battery Applications

New battery technology is not just limited to electric vehicles. It can be applied in various sectors, including energy charge storage and portable devices. However, it is in electric vehicles that technology can have the biggest impact, significantly reducing recharging times and increasing safety.

Harvard researchers are working to overcome remaining challenges, such as controlling debris, which can cause battery failures. However, they guarantee that they are developing technologies to completely avoid these problems, which could accelerate the mass adoption of electric vehicles and boost the transition to a more sustainable future.

The solid-state battery developed by Harvard University is a true revolution in the field of batteries. With the promise of last forever and recharge in just 10 minutes, this technology has the potential to transform the electric vehicle industry and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
