The contract is for the company to use the oil drilling rig West Saturn da Seadrill in the drilling campaign for six oil wells in the Santos Basin pre-salt, more precisely in the Bacalhau field.

Equinor's Investments

Equinor also agrees with the general terms of the options and believes that the contract with Seadrill will provide the Bacalhau oil field, in the pre-salt Santos Basin, with good incentives for the long drilling campaign of the wells.

Other company contracts

In addition to Seadrill, Equinor contracted, in November last year, the companies Baker Hughes, Schlumberger and Halliburton for the services of the oil wells in the Bacalhau field.

According to the Norwegian oil company, the total value of the services is approximately US$455 million, with a fixed term of 4 years, which can be extended for another 2 years.

Each contract deals with a different supply, Baker Hughes covers the drilling and completion of the oil wells, Schlumberger is responsible for the supply of profiling and Halliburton will provide intervention and coating services. In the part of the FPSO, which will be used for oil production and extraction in the pre-salt layer, the company responsible will be Modec.

It was announced by Equinor that there was also a contract with the Subsea Integration Alliance consortium for the distribution of equipment that is installed on the seabed.

Company shares in the pre-salt

In the Santos Basin pre-salt, the Bacalhau field is Equinor's largest project outside Norway. The company bought 66% of Petrobras' stake in the Carcará project for US$2,5 billion in 2016.

A year later, in October 2017, after the auction of the Norte de Carcará block, in the 2nd pre-salt sharing auction, the corporate reorganization of the project by the consortium formed between Equinor, Galp and Exxon Mobil was announced. Half of Equinor's stakes in BM-S-8 were sold to ExxonMobil for an amount of US$1,3 billion.
