Amid rising gasoline prices, ethanol emerges as an economical alternative for flex-fuel drivers
New figures reveal that the average cost of ethanol in September represented just 68,4% of the average price of gasoline. This milestone had not been reached since October 2018, when the percentage was 67,9%. These statistics are provided by the Flex Mobility Data Panorama Veloe Cost-Benefit Indicator.
Given the escalation in the price of gasoline this year, the ethanol has emerged as the most economical option for flex engine vehicles. Looking at this year's accumulated data, we see a 4,3% reduction in the price of ethanol, in contrast to a significant increase of 15,9% in the average value of conventional gasoline. When comparing September 2023 with the previous month, we observed a 2,1% increase in the price of gasoline, while ethanol had a slight increase of 0,5%. In regional terms, Mato Grosso stood out for offering the largest economy in the ethanol, costing only 59,2% of the price of gasoline. On the other hand, in Rio Grande do Sul, gasoline proved to be more competitive, with the price ratio between the two fuels reaching 83%.
Capitals exhibit a penchant for ethanol
When analyzing the average prices in Brazilian capitals, we noticed an even stronger trend in favor of ethanol (67,8%). In this context, some cities in the Southeast stand out, such as São Paulo, with an impressive rate of 61,8%, and cities in the Center-West, such as Cuiabá, which presented 59,4%.
