Discover How Much Those Who Work on Oil Platforms Earn, What the Best-Paid Positions Are, the Benefits Involved, and Why the Shift System Can Guarantee up to Six Months of Time Off per Year.

While many Brazilians face traditional Monday to Friday work hours, there is a profession linked to oil that operates differently. At offshore platforms, the work schedule is intense but concentrated.

In contrast, the time off is extended. In some cases, a worker can spend up to six months of the year on leave.

This model, based on shifts like 14×14 or 21×21, means working 14 or 21 days on board and then resting for the same period on land. Thus, throughout the year, the time away from the platform approaches half of the calendar.

Moreover, salaries are above the national average. Depending on the position and experience, remuneration can vary between R$ 5,000 and over R$ 20,000 per month.

How Much Do Those Who Work on Oil Platforms Earn?

Values vary according to the role, qualifications, and the hiring company. Data released by companies in the sector and records from CAGED indicate the following ranges:

  • Production Operator: between R$ 5,000 and R$ 8,500 per month.
  • Offshore Maintenance Technician: from R$ 6,000 to R$ 10,000.
  • Industrial Welder: from R$ 7,000 to R$ 12,000, depending on certifications.
  • Geologist or Geophysicist: between R$ 10,000 and R$ 16,000.
  • Petroleum Engineer: from R$ 12,000 to R$ 18,000, potentially exceeding R$ 20,000 in supervisory positions.
  • Offshore Safety Professionals: from R$ 6,500 to R$ 11,000.

Regions like Macaé (RJ) and the Campos Basin concentrate a good portion of the operations, which influences the job availability and salary levels.

Benefits That Boosted Income in the Oil Sector

The base salary is not the only attraction. In practice, total income can be even higher. This occurs because workers receive important bonuses and benefits.

These include:

  • Hazard Pay, which can reach 30% of the salary.
  • Health Risk Bonus, ranging from 10% to 20%.
  • Productivity Bonus, which in some contracts reaches R$ 5,000.
  • Transportation, meals, and lodging fully covered by the company.

Since the professional remains onboard during the work period, there are no expenses for housing or meals in that interval. Consequently, the ability to save tends to be greater.

Intense Routine and Challenges in the Offshore Environment

Despite the high earnings, the routine is not simple. Working with oil offshore requires physical preparation, discipline, and constant attention to safety regulations. The environment is isolated. Contact with family is limited to time off.

Additionally, weather conditions can vary. Operations are continuous. The responsibility is high. On the other hand, the sector offers stability, growth opportunities, and participation in strategic projects for the Brazilian economy.

What Would You Do If an Opportunity to Work Onboard Arises? Would You Have the Courage to Face Intense Days Off the Coast to Earn Above-Average Salaries and Have Long Periods of Time Off on Land?

Grato.
