Six Trips Around the World and the Trajectory in Circumnavigations
The six trips around the world are part of Aleixo Belov’s nautical portfolio, whose trajectory in circumnavigations began in the 1980s. The first three trips were made solo, with only the commander and the sailboat Três Marias.
The first took place between 1980 and 1981. The second was completed between 1986 and 1987. The third happened between 2000 and 2001, maintaining the solo format that marked the beginning of the sailor’s career.
Starting from the fourth trip around the world, which took place between 2010 and 2011, Belov began using the school sailboat Fraternidade, a vessel built by himself. In 2016, he completed his fifth journey around the globe.
The Sixth Expedition and the Conquest of the Northeast Passage
Almost ten years after the last challenge of this magnitude, Belov started, on April 12, 2025, his sixth trip around the world.
This time, the crossing included the Northeast Passage, considered one of the most complex maritime routes on the planet.
The Northeast Passage connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific via the Arctic and is usually traversed by large commercial ships and icebreakers.
Still, it was conquered by a school sailboat, based on the experience of the commander and the preparation of the crew.
According to Belov, the route was not the least challenging. On the contrary, it became the biggest challenge of his life, requiring confrontation with ice, harsh weather, and regional bureaucracy.
Account from the Commander About the Crossing
Commenting on the conquest of the Northeast Passage, Belov stated that he had to overcome adverse conditions during the expedition. “This was the greatest challenge of my life. We had to overcome ice, bad weather, and deal with regional bureaucracy. But we made it,” he emphasized.
The sixth trip around the world also represents the third made aboard Fraternidade. The vessel has established itself as the protagonist of the sailor’s most recent journeys.
Return to Salvador and Possible End of Circumnavigations
The return to Salvador marks the end of another cycle in Belov’s trajectory. The city was the starting point of the journey on April 12, 2025, and now welcomes the commander again after the crossing of the Northeast Passage.
At 83, he indicated that this could be his last circumnavigation. If confirmed, the sixth trip around the world, marked by the conquest of the Northeast Passage, concludes a trajectory that began in the 1980s.
With six trips around the world recorded, Belov returns to the capital of Bahia after crossing one of the most feared routes in navigation.
The event at the 2nd Naval District officially marks the consolidation of this new chapter in his nautical history and in the landscape of Brazilian navigation.
