Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Announces Deployment of 7 Digit Humanoid Robots Under RaaS Model on February 19 to Operate in Logistics, Unload Auto Parts, and Support Production of RAV4 SUV with Cloud Platform Integration
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada announced on February 19 the deployment of 7 Digit humanoid robots at its factory, under a Robots as a Service agreement, to operate in logistics and supply chain in the production of the RAV4 SUV.
Deployment of Digit Humanoid Robots at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Factory
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada entered into an agreement with Agility Robotics, a company based in Oregon, to deploy 7 Digit humanoid robots following a successful pilot project. The humanoid robots will operate in logistics and supply chain-related functions.
The humanoid robots will operate under the Robots as a Service (RaaS) model to support the construction of RAV4 SUVs at the factory. They will assist in unloading boxes of auto parts from automated tow trucks coming from the warehouse.

“After evaluating several robots, we are excited to deploy the Digit to enhance team member experience and further increase operational efficiency at our production facilities,” said Tim Hollander, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, in a statement.
Agility Arc Platform and Integration Without Structural Changes
In addition to the Digit humanoid robot, Agility Robotics will support the deployment of Agility Arc, a cloud-based automation platform capable of managing fleets of robots. The solution has been designed for integration into production facilities without the need for renovations.
The cloud platform uses AI to reduce deployment costs and make the process more efficient. The system will help Digit learn tasks and adapt to new manufacturing workflows, accelerating its commercial capabilities.
Agility Robotics has been implementing humanoid robots in real-world scenarios. The Digit is already performing similar functions for logistics providers such as GXO, Schaeffler, and Amazon.
“The cost of deployment can be much higher than the price of the robot,” said Pras Velagapudi, Chief Technology Officer of Agility, in an interview last year. He added that AI tools reduce costs and setup time, allowing for achieving the desired level of performance.
Expansion of Use Cases and Reduction of Repetitive Tasks
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and Agility will work together to explore additional use cases for the Digit humanoid robot and other solutions. The goal is to reduce repetitive tasks and free human workers for functions deemed more important.
Physically demanding tasks are common in automobile manufacturing and assembly lines. According to the companies, relieving workers from these activities can increase safety and productivity.
Agility Robotics is developing a next-generation robot capable of working alongside humans. Currently, the robots are strong enough to perform heavy lifting but are not yet developed to operate independently without human supervision.
“With our next generation of Digit, we will be the first company to deliver the first cooperative and safe humanoid robot to work alongside people, allowing companies like Toyota to expand the use of humanoids well beyond what is possible today,” said Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics, in a statement.
Automakers Expand Testing with Humanoid Robots in Factories
With the deployment of the Digit humanoid robot, Toyota joins a list of automakers testing humanoid robots in manufacturing environments to enhance productivity and production capabilities.
Last year, Figure AI tested the Figure 02 robot at a BMW factory for 10 months. During that time, the robots unloaded 90,000 parts. Other companies conducting tests with humanoid robots include Apptronik, Unitree, Tesla, Boston Dynamics, 1X Technologies, and Reflex Robotics.
The deployment of the Digit humanoid robots comes after a successful pilot project announced on February 19. The agreement establishes supply under the RaaS model and integrates a cloud solution for fleet management.
The solutions are designed to operate in existing facilities without structural changes. The AI-based platform aims to reduce deployment costs and setup time while enhancing operational efficiency in logistics and RAV4 production activities.
The partnership also anticipates ongoing development and application of humanoid robots in new functions. The companies state that cooperation can expand the commercial use of these technologies in automotive production lines.
Thus, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada formalizes the adoption of Digit humanoid robots in its factory, consolidating the use of technology in the supply chain and internal logistics, alongside other automakers expanding testing in industrial settings.
