Thinking about sustainability, the Government of Maranhão signed this Tuesday (08) an agreement for the delivery of a charging point for electric cars and electric bicycles from Equatorial Energia in the region of São Luís.

The capital of Maranhão, São Luís, will receive a project from the Equatorial Energia Group for electric cars. The partnership between the Government of Maranhão and the company was made official this Tuesday and promises to involve the population with leisure activities, since electric bicycles supplied by Equatorial will be available to the public.

Understand the partnership between the Government of Maranhão and Equatorial Energia

The partnership foresees that the Equatorial Group will install a public and free station for charging electric cars, in addition to making electric bicycles available for shared use by the population close to Parque do Rangedor.

The celebration of the signing of the agreement took place at 10 am at the Palácio dos Leões. Due to distancing measures against Covid-19, the ceremony was held with a restricted audience and with the supply of alcohol.

The event was attended by Flávio Dino, Governor of Maranhão; Augusto Miranda, CEO of Grupo Equatorial Energia; Augusto Dantas, President of Equatorial Energia in Maranhão; Francila Soares, Customer Relations Manager and Lucas Pinheiro, Studies and Planning Engineer.

Equatorial Energia's plans for the state of Maranhão

The novelty of electric bicycles and cars is an initiative of the Equatorial Group through the Research and Development Program (R&D). The project is scheduled to be installed in November of this year and, in addition to Equatorial Energia, has investments from another 9 companies in the energy sector. The charging station for electric cars and the station for bicycles will be installed in Parque do Rangedor, in the capital of Maranhão.

The objective is to analyze the use of electric cars by the community in relation to the current mobility scenario. In addition to bicycles, an electric car will be donated to the Government Secretariat (SEGOV) for inspection of public parks in Maranhão, mainly where the project will be operating.

Other states covered by the Equatorial Energia project

On May 26, through the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment and Water Resources, the Equatorial Group Piauí and the Municipality of Teresina signed an agreement making a recharge project viable for electric cars.

The project, like the one in Maranhão, includes an electric car and ten electric bicycles. The electric car given to Teresina will be used in the PM's fleet and the bicycles will be for the leisure of the citizens of Parque da Cidadania.

It is worth remembering that the available stations are for recharging, in addition to the electric car provided by Equatorial Energia, the electric cars of visitors to the site.
