Renault 5 Has Been Stored For Over 43 Years
The Renault 5 was discovered in the barn of a house in the small village of Laives, in Saône-et-Loire. Purchased in October 1982, the car was never used, maintaining only 12 km on the odometer, according to information from the newspaper La Vie de L’Auto.
The owner, who passed away a few years ago, acquired the Renault 5 over 43 years ago. At the time, she had failed the driving test multiple times. The vehicle was delivered directly to her home and has remained unused since then.

After obtaining her driver’s license, the owner never drove the Renault 5 for reasons that remain unclear. The odometer has been stuck at 12 km, corresponding to the distance traveled during delivery.
The car was worth 40,000 francs at the time of purchase. Even after decades, the Renault 5 remains in what is considered impeccable condition, with no corrosion, rust, or deterioration, and its mechanical components described as new.
Condition And Original Characteristics
According to Alexandre Chavance, editor-in-chief of the specialized magazine La Vie de L’Auto, it is a unique piece. The Renault 5 still has a temporary license plate and features original factory characteristics.
The model is a Renault 5 TL version with five doors, equipped with a four-speed manual transmission. It resembles the nearly six million units sold since the 1980s.
Auction In Paris With An Estimate Of Up To 10,000 Euros
After the owner’s death, the heirs decided to auction the Renault 5. The auction is scheduled for March 15 and will be organized by the Aguttes auction house at Espace Champerret in Paris.
The estimated value for the Renault 5 ranges between 5,000 and 10,000 euros. The vehicle remains virtually intact, over four decades after its purchase, maintaining the 12 km recorded since delivery.
Something is odd. The passenger seat is a bit messed up though no one has ridden in the car and why are there bumper stickers on the “new” car? The tyres look brand new: I’d think they’d have deteriorated. and how did they fill the garage with firewood with the car parked there the entire time?
