Signing of the Protocol of Intent between four municipalities wants to create a favorable environment that favors the creation of a Port Complex in Sergipe
The Government of Sergipe wants more, after the implementation of the Golar Power Gas Terminal in Barra dos Coqueiros, municipality of Sergipe, this time the government's intention is to install an Industrial Port Complex in the state.
Last Thursday, August 18th, at the Palácio de Despachos, a Protocol of Intentions was signed with the mayors of the municipalities of Barra dos Coqueiros, Airton Martins; Santo Amaro das Brotas, Dadau; Orange Paulo Hagenbegeck; and Maruim, Jefferson Santana.
The idea of the municipalities is to establish facilities with the government of the state of Sergipe aimed at attracting new investors for the creation of an Industrial Complex.
According to the state governor, Belivaldo Chagas, “We are already experiencing a new moment in Sergipe with the supply of gas that we will have with the new discoveries of wells by Petrobras and the thermoelectric plant that will start operating next January. The signing of this protocol of understanding comes at a good time for the State of Sergipe, as Petrobras and a consortium formed by large oil companies are eyeing the Offer of nine exploratory blocks in deep waters in the Sergipana Basin.
Job creation
The governor pointed out that the prefectures of the four municipalities that signed the protocol will now have to submit new legislation to the Municipal Chambers to guarantee that a favorable investment environment is created.
Belivaldo added that the government will provide all the technical assistance that the municipalities need and declared that: "We are going to create an environment conducive to development, the arrival of new industries and job creation."
According to the governor, the state of Sergipe has already received national and international businessmen interested in setting up their businesses in Porto.
The mayor of Barra dos Coqueiros declared that his municipality is already at the forefront, as it already has an approved master plan and that job creation is a priority in the region: “With the arrival of these industries, we will generate jobs and income. We are preparing the municipality to receive the gas and, consequently, the companies that bring jobs and income”, he declared.
The mayor of Maruim, Jefferson Santana, also highlighted the importance of the project for the generation of jobs in the region. “Today, the biggest problem we face is the unemployment of our young people,” he said.
The creation of the Sergipe Port Industrial Complex, by the government, took into account all the existing infrastructure potential in the state, its mineral wealth and its privileged geographic location.
But the decisive factor for such an initiative was certainly the large investments planned by Petrobras in the exploration of oil and gas in deep waters off the coast of the state.
With the start of production scheduled for 2023, Petrobras will also invest in the implementation of 100 km of gas pipelines at sea and another 28 km on land and the installation of a Natural Gas Treatment Unit (UPGN) in the municipality of Japaratuba/SE.
