Model promises to strengthen Renault's presence among mid-size SUVs in Brazil.
Renault has officially named its new national SUV: Renault Boreal. With production scheduled to begin in 2025 at the São José dos Pinhais (PR) factory, the model is coming to the market to compete for space in the mid-size SUV segment, betting on a robust design, turbo engine and high-tech on board.
Renault's new SUV focuses on robust design and modular platform
The new Renault Boreal will be built on the RGMP modular platform, the same one that underpins the Kardian, as confirmed by the automaker itself in an interview with Autoesporte. The SUV will have a very solid look, inspired by the Dacia Bigster, but adapted to Renault's style, focusing on straight and robust lines, that is, none of that coupé look that has been speculated.
At the front, the Boreal should feature a striking front grille, with stylized LED lights, following the design line of the brand's latest global launches. The idea is show strength and modernity right away, reinforcing Renault’s identity for the coming years.

SUV engine combines power and efficiency
Under the hood, the Renault Boreal will come with a 1.3 TCe turbo engine with 163 horsepower, already known in Brazil for the Duster. The transmission should be automatic, with a choice between a CVT or a six-speed EDC dual-clutch gearbox, as found by Autoesporte. In addition, mild hybrid versions are in the plans, using a 48V system to reduce consumption and improve performance.
According to sources close to Renault, there is still the possibility of launching an all-wheel drive configuration, targeting competitors such as the Jeep Compass 4×4. A smart move, right? Because a real SUV needs to be able to handle more than just smooth asphalt.
The interior of the new SUV promises a high level of technology and comfort
Although Renault has not yet officially revealed the interior of the Boreal, it is expected to come with plenty of features. The bet is on a large multimedia center, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a digital instrument panel.
In order not to look bad compared to its rivals, the interior finish should also be upgraded: soft materials, leather details and even ambient lighting are on the radar. Sources such as Autoesporte indicate that the SUV will offer a complete package of driving assistance, including autonomous braking, lane keeping alert and adaptive cruise control.
Renault Boreal reinforces the brand's SUV strategy in Brazil
With its launch scheduled for 2026 and national production confirmed, the Renault Boreal is more than just a new car: it is part of an expansion plan that also targets exports to countries such as Türkiye and Morocco.
With this, Renault wants to compete head-on in the mid-size SUV segment, currently dominated by models such as the Toyota Corolla Cross, Jeep Compass and Volkswagen Taos. A competitive market, where innovation, strength and confidence are what really counts, and Boreal arrives promising to play the game for real.
