Kelson Lopes da Silva, son of a motorcycle taxi driver from Piauí, achieved 1st place in the entrance exam for the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica and was also approved at the Instituto Militar de Engenharia, two of the most difficult selections in Brazil.

The scene that went viral on social media shows the father, Antônio José Soares da Silva, helping to paint his son’s face during the celebration.

From Public School to Dual Approval: Son of a Motorcycle Taxi Driver Secures 1st Place at ITA

Before this achievement, there was a journey marked by discipline and dedication. Kelson studied his entire life in public school, where he built his academic foundation.

Later, he received a 100% scholarship at Colégio Propósito in Teresina, an opportunity that broadened access to more targeted preparation for high-level entrance exams.

The routine became intense, with a focus mainly on the exact sciences. The preparation required consistency, organization, and many hours of study.

The results came at the end of last year when the double approval was confirmed.

Challenge Overcome at the Most Demanding Institutions in the Country

The Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) is nationally recognized for its high level of demand.

Meanwhile, the Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME) is also among the most competitive institutions, featuring extensive and complex exams.

Being approved at one of these institutions is already considered an extraordinary feat.

Securing a spot at both and achieving first place at ITA places Kelson in an elite group of students in the country.

In the video that went viral, the father thanks for the victory while participating in the celebration. The phrase “Approved at ITA” appears as a symbol of perseverance and overcoming.

The emotion evident on both their faces captures the weight of that moment.

For the family, this achievement goes beyond academic performance. It represents the certainty that education can transform realities, even in the face of financial limitations.

First Engineer in the Family

Kelson is now preparing to start his degree in Engineering. With his approval at ITA and IME, he has two of the most prestigious institutions in Brazil before him.

Regardless of the final choice, he already carries a symbolic title: he will be the first engineer in the family.
