Suzano, Brazilian Pulp and Paper Company Inaugurates New Factory in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espírito Santo

Suzano, the company resulting from the merger between Suzano Pulp and Paper and Fibria, is one of the largest producers of eucalyptus pulp and a global reference in the sustainable use of natural resources. The company is inaugurating its new factory in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in the state of Espírito Santo, and announced an expansion of its forest base and modernization of the industrial plant in Aracruz. Approximately R$ 782 million will be invested in the state.

The investments announced in December 2019 were expected to create 1,100 jobs and have already accumulated over R$ 933 million. For the newly opened toilet paper production factory in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, approximately R$ 130 million was invested.

The factory began operations in February, with a monthly production capacity of around 500,000 paper packages, although in the second month of operation production reached 200,000 packages, equivalent to 40% of the total production capacity.

Suzano Plans to Invest in a Bio-Oil Plant

Suzano’s president, Walter Schalka, confirmed that the company’s focus remains on investing in a bio-oil plant. However, to make this and other investments, he believes it is necessary to expand the company’s forest base.

Currently, most of the raw material used by the company comes from the border with Espírito Santo. However, to improve the competitiveness of its business, the pulp and paper giant is investing approximately R$ 380 million to expand its forest base in the state. The company’s expectation is to expand the eucalyptus planting area in Espírito Santo to 20,000 hectares in the coming years.
