Update of the Hybrid SUV Increases Electric Range, Incorporates New Comfort Features, and Strengthens Driver Assistance Technologies at a Time of Strong Commercial Performance and Advancement of the Brand’s Local Production Strategy in the Brazilian Market.

The BYD Song Pro arrives in the 2026 lineup, presented in China, with an update focused on three fronts: increasing electric range, expanding onboard comfort features, and advancing driver assistance capabilities.

The announcement comes after the model recorded its best sales month ever in Brazil in December, with 3,867 registrations, a number that placed it among the top-selling electrified vehicles of the period.

The most striking change is the new option with a larger battery, promising up to 220 km of electric range according to the Chinese CLTC cycle.

Inside the cabin, the brand now offers an integrated refrigerator in the center console, in addition to providing ventilation and heating in the front seats in the more complete versions.

The semi-autonomous driving package has also been recalibrated with new sensors, according to the description of the “God’s Eye C” system.

Although the novelty was revealed first in the Chinese market, the Brazilian interest is direct.

BYD has already confirmed the assembly of the hybrid flex Song Pro in Camaçari, Bahia, and the nationalization strategy has been presented by the company as part of the plan to reduce import dependence and gain local scale.

Sales Performance Drives Strategy in Brazil

The Song Pro has established itself as one of the most present plug-in hybrid SUVs on Brazilian streets throughout 2025.

At the end of the year, the model ranks second among the best-selling hybrids in the country, behind the GWM Haval H6, based on counts that include HEV and PHEV while excluding mild hybrids.

This performance helps explain why any updates announced abroad are closely monitored here.

At the same time, the discussion about local production has gained weight in the sector, amid the timeline for the start and maturation of BYD’s operations in Bahia and the assembly stages with different levels of nationalization.

Larger Battery Extends Electric Range According to Chinese Standards

The main technical evolution disclosed for the 2026 lineup is the adoption of a 26.6 kWh Blade battery in a new long-range configuration.

According to the data presented for the Chinese market, the electric range reaches 220 km according to the CLTC standard, used in China.

This number stands out as it is significantly higher than what appears in the Song Pro sold today in Brazil.

Here, BYD reports a battery of 18.3 kWh with a declared electric range of 68 km according to Inmetro standards, with different measurements and criteria from those applied in the Chinese cycle.

Therefore, directly comparing the two figures requires caution.

CLTC and Inmetro do not measure in the same way, and the final result tends to vary according to route, temperature, driving style, and use of items such as air conditioning.

Still, the direction of the change is clear.

By increasing the capacity of the battery pack, the brand creates room for more urban trips to be made in electric mode, reducing the need for frequent engagement of the combustion engine in traffic and low-speed scenarios.

Hybrid System Maintains 1.5 Engine and Electric Motor of 163 hp

Even with the focus on battery and range, the base of the hybrid system follows the DM-i architecture, which combines a 1.5 naturally aspirated engine with electric propulsion.

In the materials related to the 2026 lineup presented in China, the electric motor appears with 163 hp.

The promise of efficiency continues to be at the center of the discourse.

In data released for the Chinese version under specific measurement standards, the 2026 lineup has been associated with fuel consumption around 31 km/l in hybrid mode.

When published, these numbers typically come accompanied by a warning that they pertain to laboratory cycles and standards that do not necessarily replicate everyday use.

In the Brazilian market, BYD itself reports consumption and range numbers with different methodologies, including measurements under European standards and Inmetro’s PBEV.

This detail matters because consumers tend to compare vehicles by what is locally homologated, while the Chinese specifications follow another set of rules and testing conditions.

Interior Gains Refrigerator, Ventilated Seats, and New Systems

If the battery is the most technical point, the cabin is where the novelty appears more immediately.

BYD has started offering an integrated refrigerator in the center console, with cooling and heating functions.

It is a convenience feature that has become more common in higher-value models and, by reaching a volume SUV, seeks to differentiate the Song Pro in an increasingly competitive segment.

In the more complete configurations, the front seats now feature ventilation and heating as standard items in the information released for China.

Another enhancement announced is a stability control calibrated for high-speed tire blowout situations.

This feature is designed to help keep the vehicle more stable and predictable in emergencies.

Meanwhile, the driver assistance package appears as an evolution of the already known set.

The update of the “God’s Eye C” system includes enhanced sensors to make performance more precise in the available semi-autonomous functions.

BYD does not describe these assistances as full autonomous driving, but as supporting features that require supervision and responsibility from the driver.

Updates for Brazil Still Depend on Confirmation

The presentation of the 2026 lineup in China does not automatically mean the immediate arrival of all items in the Brazilian catalog.

In addition to differences in homologation and commercial strategies, features such as a larger battery and cabin items may depend on versions, packages, and, above all, industrial planning for local production and component supply.

However, interest is reinforced by the fact that BYD has already placed the Song Pro at the center of its nationalization plan.

The company confirmed the assembly of the hybrid flex SUV in Camaçari, which increases expectations for updates aligned with the local market.

In a scenario where price, availability, and import costs directly influence competitiveness, changes that increase electric range and add technology tend to weigh in the competition with direct rivals.

With this battery advancement, new comfort items, and a revised semi-autonomous package, which of these factors should hold more weight in the decision-making of Brazilian consumers in the coming months?
