The Line megacity, which is 170 km long and stands at an impressive 500 meters high, promises to revolutionize global urban planning. The first phase, called Hidden Marina, is already under construction and will have 200 residents, more than 80 residential units and an ultra-fast transport system. With an investment of US$140 billion and more than 140 workers involved, this ambitious project is already shaping the future of cities.
The Line megacity is an ambitious project that will stretch 170 km across the Saudi desert, forming a compact, linear city. The idea is to create a 100% sustainable space, free of cars and pollution, where everything is within walking distance. The futuristic design includes a mirrored exterior, providing a striking visual and completely differentiating it from conventional cities.
The project is part of the Neom initiative, which seeks to transform Saudi Arabia into a hub of innovation, technology and quality of life. With an investment of US$ 140 billion, The Line aims to be a model of global urbanism.
Hidden Marina – The first step of construction
The first phase of The Line megacity, called Hidden Marina, will be 2,5 km long and will rise to an impressive 500 meters high. For comparison, the Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world, is 828 meters tall, but its built area is only 350.000 square meters. Hidden Marina will have an area of 21 million square meters, a true colossus of modern engineering.
- China invests in 78 ports in Africa and expands logistics dominance in 32 countries
- Balneário Camboriú will have its own 'Brazilian Times Square' with the opening of the New York Food Lounge
- Researchers electrify seawater to create carbon-absorbing cement — materials that could replace sand and gravel used in concrete production
- Mega water project advances! São Francisco River Integration Project guarantees water security for 12 million people in the Northeast
Composed of three modular segments, Hidden Marina will have a mirrored façade and an artificial marina. Although details about the marina have not yet been released, it is expected to be one of the project's main attractions.
An ambitious infrastructure for 200 people
The Hidden Marina it will not just be a luxurious space, but a functional and self-sufficient city. With an estimated initial population of 200 people, it will have more than 80 residential units, 9 hotel rooms, commercial spaces, schools, fire stations and essential services.
One of the great differentiators of The Line megacity is its management based on artificial intelligence. AI will be responsible for monitoring energy consumption, space occupancy and optimizing security. In addition, residents will have access to all essential services within a short five-minute walk, and a high-speed train will ensure rapid transportation between segments of the city.
Progress in the construction of The Line
The construction of The Line megacity is one of the greatest engineering challenges of our time. Currently, more than 140 workers are involved in the project, and Saudi Arabia is using around 20% of the world's steel supply to build this futuristic city. Another interesting factor is the use of robots to assist in the construction, speeding up the processes and ensuring greater precision in execution.
In addition to The Line, the country also has other grand projects in progress, such as the JEC Tower, which will be the next tallest building in the world, and the gigantic Mukaab, a futuristic structure that promises to redefine the standards of global architecture.
A project in which one of the proposals is to shorten distances, already contradicts itself because from a geometric point of view, it should be a circle, another point to truly be self-sustainable, height is another factor that will contribute to greater energy consumption, in short, there are so many contradictions that it is difficult to discern what the true purpose of this mega project is.
There is no chance of this work ever leaving the drawing board.
