Government of Minas Announces Salary Increase of 5.4% for Public Servants, with Retroactive Payment and Impact of R$ 3.4 Billion.

The Government of Minas, under the leadership of Romeu Zema, announced this Monday (2/3) a salary increase of 5.4% for the public servants of the State.

The measure covers active, retired, and pensioned state employees, with retroactive payment to January 2026.

In total, about 673,000 people will benefit, with an estimated annual impact of R$ 3.4 billion on the payroll.

The decision comes after fiscal efforts initiated in 2019, aimed at reorganizing public accounts and ensuring financial predictability.

Salary Increase Expands Income of State Public Servants

The new salary increase announced by the Government of Minas represents an important advance for the state public servants, especially in a scenario of fiscal constraints.

The adjustment seeks to preserve the purchasing power of the servants in the face of accumulated inflation.

Meanwhile, the financial impact of the measure reinforces the State’s commitment to valuing the public servants.

The additional amount projected — about R$ 3.4 billion per year — demonstrates the weight of the payroll on the state budget.

According to Governor Romeu Zema, balancing the accounts was essential to enable the increase:

“This adjustment is only possible because we did our homework with great responsibility.

In the coming days, we will send the project to the Assembly so that the increase is approved and paid as soon as possible. Minas thrives because our servants make all the difference.

And continuing to take care of the accounts is what ensures we can do this not only now but also in the future. Minas continues steadfast.”

Government of Minas Project Still Depends on Approval

Despite the announcement, the salary increase still needs to go through legislative steps.

Thus, the exact payment date will depend on the processing and approval of the text by the state deputies.

On the other hand, the Executive’s expectation is that the process will proceed quickly, allowing for retroactive payment as soon as possible.

Salary Increase Guarantees Minimum Wage for Education Professionals

Another relevant point of the salary increase is the guarantee of compliance with the national minimum wage for education professionals.

This measure meets a historical demand of the category and reinforces the commitment of the Government of Minas to public education.

In addition, the adjustment contributes to reducing salary distortions within the state workforce, promoting greater balance among careers.

Fiscal Effort Enables Salary Increase

The announcement of the salary increase is directly linked to the fiscal adjustment conducted by the Government of Minas since 2019.

During that period, the State faced financial difficulties, including delays and installments in payments to public servants.

Since then, measures for controlling expenses and reorganizing public accounts have been implemented.

Right in the first year, the government paid the overdue 13th salary from 2018.

From 2021 onwards, salaries began to be paid fully and on time, ending more than five years of instability.

Currently, the workforce receives payment on the fifth business day, regularly.

The Deputy Governor Mateus Simões highlighted the ongoing effort of the administration:

“We are pleased to announce this adjustment to all the servants, who make the State function and thrive.

This measure was only possible because since 2019, the government has been working seriously and austerely, taking care of the accounts with great responsibility.

And we will continue to work hard to make Minas an even better State for all miners.”

History of Salary Increases Reinforces Government of Minas Policy

The current salary increase is not an isolated case.

In recent years, the Government of Minas has adopted a policy of gradual recomposition of the salaries of public servants.

In 2022, for example, a raise of 10.06% was granted, the first after over a decade without a general review.

In 2024, there was another adjustment of 4.62% for the state workforce.

Thus, the new increase of 5.4% reinforces the government’s strategy of maintaining progressive salary gains, even in the face of budget constraints.

Expectations of Public Servants After the Announcement

With the announcement of the salary increase, the expectation among the public servants is that the measure will be approved quickly by the ALMG.

This is because the retroactive payment to January 2026 can represent significant financial relief.

Meanwhile, the Government of Minas bets on maintaining fiscal balance to ensure future adjustments.

Therefore, the increase announced by Romeu Zema not only directly impacts the income of thousands of workers but also signals stability and predictability for the state workforce in the coming years.
