Bioceanic Route International Bridge Reaches Final Phase with 1,294 Meters in Length, 21 Meters in Width and Completion of the Main Structure Expected by May 2026

The Bioceanic Route International Bridge has entered the final phase of construction between Porto Murtinho (MS) and Carmelo Peralta, in Paraguay, with 1,294 meters in length and completion of the main structure expected by May 2026, integrating the Bioceanic Route as a new strategic export axis.

Bioceanic Route International Bridge Advances to the “Kiss” of the Stirrups

There are about 101 meters left to the so-called “kiss” of the stirrups, the moment when both sides of the Bioceanic Route International Bridge meet over the Paraguay River, forming the complete connection between Brazil and Paraguay.

The structure is 1,294 meters long and 21 meters wide. Currently, approximately 280 workers, including Brazilians and Paraguayans, are working on the project in a phase considered crucial for the integration of the Bioceanic Route.

Structural Adjustments and Real-Time Electronic Monitoring

After the completion of the main structure of the Bioceanic Route International Bridge, complementary services will be performed.

These include the installation of steel cables within the concrete slab and the adjustment of the 168 cables that support the central span.

Shock absorbers will also be installed to enhance the safety of the structure. Pillars and cables will receive electronic sensors capable of monitoring the bridge in real-time, tracking the weight supported and identifying potential issues, including during vehicle passage.

Other stages include lighting to guide vessels on the Paraguay River, finishing the pavement, installing protective railings, and building a bike lane, expanding the functionalities of the Bioceanic Route International Bridge.

Total Delivery Expected by August 2026

In the final phase, the project will receive paving, painting, signage, and ornamental lighting. The expectation is that the Bioceanic Route International Bridge will be fully delivered in August 2026, consolidating the physical link between the two countries.

Integrated customs structures are also planned on both sides of the border, forming part of the logistical system associated with the new road corridor.

Bioceanic Route Expected to Reduce Up to 9,700 Kilometers and Shorten Trips to China by Up to 17 Days

The bridge is part of the Capricorn Highway Corridor, known as the Bioceanic Route, which will connect ports in Brazil to those in Chile, passing through Paraguay and Argentina, creating an alternative for transporting products.

The expectation is a reduction of over 9,700 kilometers in the maritime distance of Brazilian exports to Asia.

In trips to China, the transport time may decrease by 12 to 17 days, representing about a 23% reduction.

According to the Federal Revenue, the initial forecast is for 250 trucks to circulate per day. This number may grow with the consolidation of the route as a new trade path between Mercosur countries and Asia.
