Description and capabilities of FoF 1.0

The printer, called Factory of the Future 1.0 (FoF 1.0), was unveiled at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC), before an audience that included representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense and Energy, state housing authorities, industrial partners and other stakeholders.

This thermoplastic polymer printer can print objects up to 29,26 meters long, 9,75 meters wide and 5,49 meters high, with a production capacity of up to 226,8 kilograms per hour.

One of the most promising applications of FoF 1.0 is the construction of affordable housing. Using wood waste, which is abundant in Maine, this technology not only seeks to offer cost-effective housing solutions, but also boosts the use of bio-based and sustainable materials.
