A Linear City of 170 Km, Car-Free and Powered by 100% Renewable Energy, Is Being Built in the Saudi Desert as Part of a Visionary £400 Billion Megaproject. Meet “The Line” and the Innovations That Promise to Transform the Future of Construction.

An innovative city is being built in the heart of the desert: The construction of Neom, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious project that promises to completely transform the way we live and work. With an impressive investment of £400 billion, Neom is not just a city, but an urban ecosystem that redefines the boundaries of innovation and sustainability.

Have you heard of a city that will change the game in the global economy? Neom, located in the Tabuk province, is Saudi Arabia’s answer to a world seeking alternatives to oil. The goal? To make the country a hub for tourism, technology, and innovation. This project is more than just a simple construction; it is a vision of a more sustainable and connected future.

What Is “The Line”?

The Neom megaproject in Saudi Arabia is a futuristic city costing £400 billion being built in the desert to house millions of people. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, it includes 'The Line', a linear city that is car-free and powered by 100% renewable energy.
The Neom megaproject in Saudi Arabia is a futuristic city costing £400 billion being built in the desert to house millions of people. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, it includes “The Line,” a linear city that is car-free and powered by 100% renewable energy.

According to the Express website, at the heart of Neom is the construction of “The Line,” a linear city that, as the name suggests, challenges the traditional format of cities. With an impressive length of 170 kilometers, it will be a narrow strip just 200 meters wide, but with buildings rising to 500 meters. It will be entirely surrounded by a mirrored exterior, reflecting the desert landscape and the surrounding mountains.

The most impressive part? There will be no cars! That’s right. No traffic jams, pollution, or honking. Everything will be accessible on foot or via a high-speed train system. It’s as if the Jetsons designed a city for the 21st century!

Highlight Areas of Construction

In addition to “The Line,” Neom will feature other equally impressive regions:

  • Trojena: A tourist destination in the mountains that promises to blend artificial snow with stunning views.
  • Oxagon: A floating industrial complex that will be a landmark in logistics and maritime trade.
  • Natural Reserve, Magna, and The Islands: Each of these areas will have its own identity, combining sustainability and innovation.

During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Dennis Hickey, Development Director of Neom, revealed that work on “The Line” is progressing rapidly. A specialized factory is producing 20,000 cubic meters of concrete per day to ensure that the vision takes shape. By 2030, the first phase will be completed, providing housing for 300,000 people.

A Green and Smart City

What makes the construction of Neom truly special is its commitment to sustainability. The city will be completely powered by renewable energy, combining solar, wind, and green hydrogen. Residents will have access to all essential services within a five-minute walk, a simple idea that promises to transform daily life.

Global Impacts and Vision for 2030

Neom is not just a city; it is a solution. As Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighted, it is on the front line in addressing the livability and environmental crises facing the world. Are we witnessing the birth of a model that other nations will follow?

Looking towards 2030, it is clear that the construction of Neom is not just about the future of Saudi Arabia, but about the future of the planet. A car-free city powered by clean energy and designed to be a sustainable refuge may be the answer the world has been waiting for.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to live in the future? Because with Neom, it is closer than ever.
