The Story of How the Volkswagen Beetle, an Icon on Four Wheels, Came to Life on Two, with a 212cc Engine

The Volkswagen Beetle, or Bug, is one of those iconic cars that have captured the hearts of automotive enthusiasts and design admirers for decades. With over 21 million units produced over its impressive 65 years of history, the old bug has become an icon of the global automotive industry. The journey of this beloved car, which began in 1938, only ended in 2003, enchanting entire generations with its timeless design.

But what if we told you that someone managed to capture the timeless charm of the Beetle and transform it into something even more adorable? Well, builder Brent Walter did just that, using the fenders of an old bug to create two small charming motorcycles, which he affectionately named “Volkspods.”

Ambitious Project and Passion for the Iconic Volkswagen Car

Inspired by the timeless design of the Beetle, Brent Walter undertook an ambitious project that combines his passion for the iconic Volkswagen car with his skill in working with metal. He chose the fenders of an old Beetle as raw material to bring the Volkspods to life.

The journey of creating these charming scooters began in March of this year and has since captivated enthusiasts and Volkswagen fans around the world.

The Volkspods are not only visually appealing, but they also pack performance and surprise in practice. Brent equipped these little wonders with 79cc and 212cc engines, providing a unique riding experience. The choice of classic green and blue colors adds a nostalgic touch that evokes the essence of the Beetle.

The Availability of Parts for Beetle Lovers

You might think that finding parts for an old Beetle would be a daunting task, but surprisingly, Brent says it’s quite the opposite. Parts for the old Beetle are, in fact, surprisingly easy to find, particularly at swap meets. This accessibility makes the restoration and customization of classic cars, like the Beetle, an accessible passion for many.

Brent Walter shares that his motivation to create the Volkspods came from the need for a scooter for Volkswagen shows. These motorcycles are not just a passion project, but also a way to hone his craft as a craftsman.

The progress of the Volkspods has been closely followed by a loyal community of fans on Brent’s Instagram account. Since the beginning, he has shared every step of the build, turning the journey into a shared and inspiring experience. Through photos and stories, enthusiasts have been able to see these unique motorcycles take shape and come to life.

The Volkspods are more than just motorcycles; they are an ode to nostalgia, a connection between the past and the present, and a celebration of the innovative spirit of the automotive community. Thanks to the creativity and passion of Brent Walter, the legacy of the Beetle lives on not only on the roads but now also on two wheels.
