New Space and Hybrid Event Are Some of the Innovations of Rio Oil & Gas
The 2022 edition of Rio Oil & Gas brought many innovations to attract audiences from all over the world and will feature a high-quality simultaneous translation experience. However, this year, the event will take place in a new environment, the Olympic Boulevard, due to pandemic restrictions and the need for a larger space to accommodate the exhibitions.

The largest South American oil company, Petrobras, is preparing for a historic leap in production with new FPSO platforms and the expansion of refining — projects that could add up to 900,000 barrels per day and strengthen Brazil’s energy security.
-
Billions of barrels in the Equatorial Margin could double Amapá’s oil production in Brazil and attract companies from the Campos Basin.

“One of the main innovations we are bringing to this edition is a new location, a new space. We are moving from a place that hosted us for many years, which had all the infrastructure, but we needed to change. […] It is a challenge to bring the event to a new location”.
Victor Montenegro, one of the main organizers of Rio Oil & Gas in an interview with the Dicas Offshore channel, hosted by Matheus Rangel (2022).
Victor also states that the choice of the new area was due to its attractiveness and ease of access that the Olympic Boulevard offers. However, the event occupies an area of 51,000 square meters across 7 warehouses and allows easier access to other locations such as the Museum of Tomorrow and other interesting tourist spots in Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, it brings benefits to the local GDP.
Another novelty is that all the digital experiences we lived during the pandemic will be incorporated into the congress. Thus, the entire congress is being broadcast worldwide through live online transmissions. The event allows knowledge to be extended to people who, for some reason, could not attend and major negotiations.
The event features simultaneous translation via the conference platform. This online platform has more than 18,000 participants. In this way, the event exceeds expectations and reaches diverse audiences in different locations.
The Event Will Feature Presentations of Over 550 Papers, a New CEO Talks Framework, and Open Discussions to the Public, Promoting Jobs and Networking
For those who are not familiar with Rio Oil & Gas, the event has traditional sessions with technical papers and a lot of content. This year was no different. In this regard, the 2022 event received over 1,000 papers for evaluation and will showcase 550 that were approved based on technical criteria by a qualified team of professionals. The papers cover technical, scientific, technological, and academic aspects and leave a significant legacy of knowledge.
Additionally, the event has 32 special sessions for presenting content, case studies, and discussions highly focused on trade. There are also broader dialogue sessions aimed at societal interests, discussions on exploration and production, and energy transition.
This Rio Oil & Gas has an important characteristic; it has a much more transversal discussion. We address many topics of energy transition and decarbonization. Furthermore, it is clear that the discussions of women, inclusivity, pluralism, and necessary communication with society cannot be absent.
A major highlight of this event is the CEO Talks. The CEO Talks will be the new framework featuring managers sharing their agendas in an informal chat. They are interesting for society to understand, in real-time, what is happening and what is expected regarding the regulatory framework and strategies for the coming years.
The 2022 Edition Features an Attractive Program and is One of the Largest in History, Boosting Local GDP and Job Creation
The choice of location was made considering an open space that allows for freer movement of people, especially as we are coming out of a pandemic. In this sense, a major challenge was the infrastructure in the city of Rio de Janeiro, considering the large presence of people from all over the world. Many discussions took place with the city hall to make the logistics feasible.
The event has introduced a much more robust media plan and there have been extensive campaigns to attract the audience, especially the younger ones. As a result, the event is already one of the largest in history, with more than 400 exhibitors and over 40 sponsors.
Rio de Janeiro has been standing out in entertainment and cultural events, in addition to business fairs. An event of this magnitude brings opportunities for new jobs for young people in the oil and gas sector and stimulates the local commerce to cater to the public.
Moreover, secondary events are created concurrently with those happening at Rio Oil & Gas. This financially boosts the city and brings multiple benefits to the national GDP. The networking that the event promotes also opens up new opportunities.
What is Brazil’s Scenario in the Oil and Gas Market?
Fernanda Delgado, executive director of the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) and one of the organizers of Rio Oil & Gas, points out that Brazil’s scenario in the Oil and Gas market is quite favorable. Although Brazil is emerging from a pandemic period and facing a recession, it still shows positive results and there is much talk about energy transition.
Thus, there is a rise in prices as a result of increased investments in the Oil and Gas sector. Additionally, more than 20 production units are arriving in the country to operate, which brings many jobs and consequently improves the national GDP.
The oil and gas sector holds significant power due to its ability to ensure supply, even during the energy transition. This has become even more pronounced following the geopolitical supply crisis in Europe due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The energy transition needs this sector to ensure all of that supply.
