Located in Araras (SP), Fazenda Colorado stands out year after year as the largest dairy farm in Brazil. Discover the story of this giant, its record production, the innovative technologies it uses, and the recognized quality of Xandô brand products.

Fazenda Colorado, located in the municipality of Araras, interior São Paulo, consistently stands out as the largest dairy farm in Brazil. Its leadership in the highly competitive national dairy sector is the result of a trajectory of over a century of tradition, combined with continuous investments in innovation and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Let’s explore its rich history, the impressive production numbers that place it at the top, the cutting-edge technologies employed in herd management and animal welfare, and the success of the Xandô dairy brand, which brings this excellence to consumers’ tables.

The History of Fazenda Colorado: From 1870 to National Leadership

The roots of the property that today houses Fazenda Colorado date back to 1870. The commercial exploration of milk in the region began in 1923, with the construction of the first barn. The current setup of Fazenda Colorado began in 1964, when Lair Antonio de Souza acquired land in Araras. In 1980, a significant expansion occurred with the acquisition of the neighboring Fazenda Bom Jesus.

A crucial milestone was the birth of the Xandô brand in 1982. The company introduced pasteurized Grade A milk and, in 1988, innovated with bottled Grade A milk, a novelty in São Paulo at the time. Over the decades, Fazenda Colorado continued to innovate, launching 100% natural juices in 1997, installing a modern mechanical milking system in 2006, and an advanced carousel system in 2012. More recently, it introduced lactose-free milk (2016) and A2 milk (2022).

The Record Production of the Largest Dairy Farm in Brazil

Fazenda Colorado reaffirmed its position as the largest dairy farm in Brazil in 2024, achieving an average daily production of 98,921 liters of milk, according to the prestigious Top 100 MilkPoint-Abraleite Survey released in 2025. This leadership has been consistent for over a decade, with the farm ranking first since 2014 across various editions of the survey.

A historic production peak was recorded in August 2021, when the property reached the mark of 100,000 kilos of milk (approximately 97,000 liters) in a single 24-hour period. To sustain these numbers, the farm relies on a herd of over 2,300 Holstein cows in milk.

The Recipe for Excellence at Fazenda Colorado

The productive excellence of Fazenda Colorado is supported by cutting-edge technology and a strong commitment to animal welfare. The property uses a mechanical milking carousel system, considered one of the most modern in Latin America, with the capacity to milk 72 cows simultaneously every cycle of approximately 9 minutes, allowing the processing of around 450 cows per hour.

To mitigate thermal stress, especially relevant in the Brazilian climate, the farm has implemented a sophisticated climate-controlled confinement system known as “cross ventilation.” This 27,000 square meter structure houses about 2,000 lactating cows, reducing internal temperature by 8°C to 12°C compared to the outside. The focus on genetic improvement has resulted in self-sufficiency in herd lineage and “lifetime cows” with production exceeding 100,000 kilos of milk. A qualified team of 86 professionals is dedicated to milk production.

Xandô: The Brand That Brings the Farm’s Quality to the Consumer’s Table

The Xandô brand is the commercial expression of Fazenda Colorado’s quality, offering a diverse portfolio that includes Grade A milks (whole, skim, light, lactose-free, A2A2), 100% natural juices (orange, tangerine, grape, etc.), cream (conventional and lactose-free), cheeses, and butters.

One of the big differences is the “From Farm to Table” process. The milk is milked and packaged without manual contact, with all processing occurring 100% within the farm’s facilities, ensuring that the product reaches consumers fresh in approximately 24 hours after milking. This quality strategy has earned Xandô the leadership in the Grade A milk segment in São Paulo state, with a 43% market share, and the runner-up position in refrigerated juices in the city of São Paulo.

Certifications and Environmental Practices

Fazenda Colorado’s commitment to quality is evidenced by several certifications. It was a pioneer in obtaining the Biosecurity Certification, in partnership with Embrapa Dairy Cattle and Boehringer Ingelheim, being the first property with its own dairy in Brazil to receive this seal. In 2021, it became the first dairy farm in Brazil to receive the International Certification for Animal Welfare by QIMA.

The farm also produces certified A2A2 milk and has a Kosher seal for various products. Environmentally, Fazenda Colorado actively protects its springs and riparian forests. The Xandô brand uses packaging made with 30% recycled PET and bears the “I Recycle” label, indicating participation in reverse logistics systems. The farm also integrates principles of regenerative agriculture and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) into its practices.

Fazenda Colorado, the largest dairy farm in Brazil, plans to continue its trajectory of growth and improvement. There is a prospect of expanding the herd by up to 500 cows, a move that will be conditioned by market demands and will require corresponding investments in infrastructure and personnel training. Maintaining the family legacy, with professional management and a focus on continuous innovation, are priorities.

Investment in genetics to develop an increasingly efficient, productive, and resilient herd will remain a crucial strategy. Fazenda Colorado not only consolidates itself as a market leader but as a reference in productivity, adoption of cutting-edge technology, and quality standards in the dairy farming national, demonstrating the potential for modernization and competitiveness of the sector in Brazil.
