Attention, Drivers! City Will Have 16 New Radars Installed to Intensify Traffic Enforcement. Violations Such as Red Light Running, Prohibited Turns, and Invasions of Exclusive Lanes Will Be Targeted.
In an initiative that promises to transform the routine of drivers in Belo Horizonte, the Belo Horizonte City Hall (PBH) announced the installation of 16 new electronic enforcement radars at various points in the capital of Minas Gerais.
The measure aims to intensify traffic monitoring and ensure greater safety for pedestrians and drivers. But are drivers prepared for this change?
New Radars: Where and When?

-
With an investment of R$ 612 million, a capacity to process 1.2 million liters of milk per day, Piracanjuba inaugurates a mega cheese factory that increases national production, reduces dependence on imports, and repositions Brazil on the global dairy map.

Brazilian city gains industrial hub for 85 companies that is equivalent to 55 football fields.
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the PBH published the approval for the implementation of 16 radars in the coming days.
Of these, 11 will be installed in new locations, while the other five will replace existing equipment.
All devices are part of a contract signed by the city hall at the end of 2024, valid until 2029.
Objective of the Measure
BHTrans, the company responsible for traffic in the capital, clarified that the approval is a crucial step for the equipment to be able to operate, enhancing and ensuring road safety on the streets of Belo Horizonte.
However, the radars are not yet operational, as they depend on the completion of steps such as proper road signage and energizing the devices.
As soon as they are ready, informative signs will be placed at the locations to guide drivers and pedestrians about the start date of the operation of the electronic enforcement equipment.
Types of Violations Monitored
Of the new equipment, 10 will be dedicated to detecting red light running, with nine from the brand Brascontrol and one from Pumatronix.
Additionally, one device from Pumatronix will simultaneously identify both red light running and prohibited turns.
Two devices from Consilux and two from Brascontrol will conduct the same combined enforcement.
Furthermore, one radar will be responsible for monitoring both red light running and the invasion of the exclusive bus lane.

Experts Support the Initiative
Traffic expert Cínthia Almeida highlights that the installation of the new radars is essential to encourage drivers to comply with the rules established by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB).
She emphasizes that the annual average of deaths in traffic in the country ranges between 33,000 and 35,000, an alarming number that highlights the need for strict monitoring measures.
Cínthia also stresses the importance of ongoing educational campaigns to raise awareness among drivers about the relevance of respecting traffic laws for the safety of all.
The Impact on Drivers
With the imminent activation of these new radars, drivers in Belo Horizonte will need to be extra cautious when navigating the city’s streets.
The stricter enforcement seeks to deter violations such as red light running, prohibited turns, and invasions of exclusive bus lanes, practices that jeopardize road safety.
Therefore, it is crucial for drivers to pay attention to signage and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to safer traffic.
And you, are you prepared for this new reality in the traffic of Belo Horizonte?
