Information and Insights on the New Generation of Toyota Hilux 2026 Emerge and Spark Debate: Is Maintaining the Current Platform a Negative Point or Do Improvements in Engine and Technology Compensate?
The new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026 has finally been spotted, and the first official information is beginning to surface, promising a more current and modern vehicle. However, a controversy already accompanies this highly anticipated launch scheduled for “this year” (with arrival in Brazil expected by the end of 2025): the pickup will maintain its current platform, introduced in 2015.
Would this be a disappointment for fans of the sales leader? Or will the technological, structural gains and the new hybrid engines be enough to solidify the success of the new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026? Let’s analyze everything that is already known.
The Major Controversy of the New Generation of Toyota Hilux 2026: The Same Platform?
It has been officially confirmed what many feared: the new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026 will retain the platform introduced in 2015. Although it may be called a “new generation” due to technological and structural advancements, the change will not be as profound as seen in the recent generations of the Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi L200 Triton.

Despite this, Toyota is expected to implement significant structural reinforcements in the Hilux 2026 and, crucially, a much more efficient suspension. Currently, Toyota’s pickup is considered one of the most uncomfortable in the market in this regard.
Renewed Design

Based on sightings and projections, such as those from designer Kleber Silva of KDesign and Headlight, the design of the new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026 will be modernized. The front is expected to adopt a split headlight assembly, similar to that of the Fiat Toro and the new L200 Triton. The traditional logo will be replaced by the name “Toyota” written on the grille, following the brand’s current trend, and the bumper will be redesigned.
On the sides, the novelty will be 18-inch wheels with a new design. At the rear, the pickup will feature new LED taillights and subtle changes to the bed cover and bumper.
Hybrid Engine
The new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026 will bring important innovations in engine options, with a focus on hybrid configurations. In the simpler configurations, the 48V mild hybrid engine (MHEV), already present in the Hilux sold in Europe and Asia, will be available. This system combines the 2.8 turbo diesel engine with 204 hp and 51 kgf.m with a 48V starter generator (16 hp and 6.6 kgf.m), promising fuel savings and performance improvements. The transmission will be a six-speed automatic with 4×4 traction.
The major novelty, however, will be a hybrid system similar to that of the new Land Cruiser 300. It involves a 2.4 turbo gasoline engine with a 48V system that will deliver an impressive 330 horsepower and 64.2 kgf.m of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4×4 traction. Versions with the conventional 2.8 turbo diesel engine are also expected to remain available.
Interior and Technology: A Leap in Modernity and More Comfort Features
The interior of the new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026 will be inspired by the brand’s new utility line, such as the midsize Tacoma pickup (sold in the USA). Improved quality materials in the finish are expected along with a more sophisticated elevated console. However, due to the maintenance of the platform, the internal space for five adults should remain similar to that of the current model.
The equipment list will gain important items, such as wireless phone charging, a configurable 12-inch digital panel, electronic parking brake, and a 12-inch floating multimedia system.
Enhanced Safety and Arrival in Brazil
Toyota will pay greater attention to safety in the new generation of Toyota Hilux 2026. The pickup will feature a much more comprehensive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package. We can expect items such as collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert with braking for maneuvers, automatic high beam switching, lane change alert with correction, blind spot alert, sign reader, and adaptive cruise control (ACC) with Stop and Go function.
The official presentation of the new Hilux 2026 in the international market is anticipated for the first half of 2025, with arrival in Brazil expected in the last quarter of 2025. It will continue to be produced in Argentina and imported here. The pickup is expected to become even more expensive, potentially reaching a price range similar to that of the BYD Shark, around R$ 380,000 for the more equipped versions.
