Complete Analysis of the 2025 Yamaha NMAX 160 Model, The Main Rival of the PCX. Learn More About Its Engine with VVA, Cutting-Edge Technology, and Whether It Lives Up to the Promise of Efficiency.

Understand the features that make the NMAX 160 a strong rival of the PCX. We will cover its design, engine, fuel consumption, comfort, and technology, based on specialized tests and official data, to understand if it lives up to its promises.

The Yamaha NMAX Connected 160 (2025) arrives in the Brazilian market as a premium scooter, designed for intense traffic and highway stretches. With the slogan “smart way to enjoy a scooter,” the model aims to redefine the riding experience by focusing on modernity, control, and comfort.

The Combination of Elegance of the MAX Series and the Efficiency of the 155cc Engine with VVA

The design of the Yamaha NMAX 160 (2025) blends elegance and sportiness. The fairing lines and the redesigned seat give it a more contemporary and refined look. The characteristic “boomerang” side, a signature of the MAX Series, has been renewed. Yamaha describes the construction as “very strong,” and the quality of the materials reinforces this perception. The lighting is now Full LED, including the headlight, position light, and turn signals, modernizing the appearance and enhancing safety.

The heart of the PCX rival is a 155cc single-cylinder engine, SOHC, with 4 valves and liquid cooling. It features a DiASil cylinder, an aluminum-silicon alloy that improves heat dissipation. A technological differentiator is the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). This system adjusts the valve opening timing, prioritizing torque and fuel economy at low RPM while providing more power at higher speeds. The maximum power is 15.1 hp and the maximum torque is 1.4 kgf.m. The transmission is automatic CVT.

Fuel Consumption and Practicality

Yamaha NMAX 160 The rival of the PCX that combines comfort, performance, and fuel economy of 40 km/l

The fuel efficiency is a strong point of the NMAX 160. Specialized tests report averages ranging from 35-40 km/l, potentially reaching 40-45 km/l. Thus, the goal of 40 km/l is attainable. The panel has an instantaneous consumption indicator and an “ECO” mode to assist in economical riding. The Intelligent Stop & Start system shuts off the engine during short stops, saving fuel. With a 7.1-liter tank, the range can exceed 280 km.

Comfort is ensured by the anatomical and spacious seat. The rear suspension has a two-level preload adjuster. The rear suspension travel has been increased to 91 mm. For practicality, the under-seat compartment accommodates a full-face helmet, and there are two front storage compartments.

Features That Position the PCX Rival as a Premium Scooter

The NMAX 160 (2025) stands out for its technology and safety package. The Smart Key system allows you to start the bike by proximity. The 230 mm disc brakes on both wheels come with two-channel ABS.

In addition to ABS, the scooter incorporates the Traction Control System (TCS), which monitors and prevents rear wheel skid. The panel is 100% digital, and through the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect (Y-Connect) app, the rider can receive mobile notifications on the panel, log routes, monitor consumption, and receive maintenance alerts.

Experts’ Opinion

Experts and comparative tests pit the NMAX 160 against the Honda PCX 160. In performance, the NMAX (15.1 hp) is often perceived as having a “smarter” engine, possibly due to the VVA technology. The PCX 160 (around 16 hp) has a slight edge in nominal power.

In terms of fuel consumption, the PCX has historically been the standard for efficiency. In safety, the NMAX clearly gains an advantage by offering ABS on both wheels and Traction Control (TCS) as standard features. The PCX in Brazil has versions with ABS only on the front or on both wheels, but without TCS. In technology, the full connectivity of Y-Connect also positions the NMAX ahead. The price of the NMAX is generally slightly higher, reflecting its more premium positioning.

Is the 2025 NMAX Worth the Investment?

The Yamaha NMAX Connected 160 (2025) was launched with a suggested price starting at R$ 21,790 (excluding freight), with the official site already displaying a price of R$ 22,890. Prices charged by dealerships may vary. The available colors in Brazil for the 2025 model are Magma Black (matte black), Digital Grey (matte gray), and Solar Red (solid red).

The NMAX 160 (2025) lives up to its promises of comfort and performance. The goal of 40 km/l is realistic. It is recommended for those seeking technology and the highest level of active safety. For those prioritizing acquisition costs and proven fuel economy, the Honda PCX 160 remains a strong competitor. The NMAX raises the standard of the segment, encouraging innovation and benefiting the consumer.

Bom dia.
Tenho uma NMAX 2020 e dou um conselho… Separe o valor da moto para gastar em 3 anos e tenha paciência para encontrar as peças de reposição fora das concessionárias Yamaha, que são apenas 4 filiais no município do grande RJ.
