The Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between The Companies Is A Continuation Of The Strategic Agreement Foreseen In 2022 Between Both. The ABS And The HD Hyundai Aim To Develop New Autonomous Vessel Projects In Cooperation During The Agreement.

For this Tuesday, (10/01), the global market giants ABS and HD Hyundai have come together for the development of new future projects in the maritime segment. The companies intend to utilize a recently signed agreement for the creation of new solutions and technologies for autonomous vessels over the coming years. In 2022, there was already a partnership between them, with strong achievements in the field, which should be leveraged for the companies’ future projects.

Cooperation Agreement Between ABS And HD Hyundai Will Be Essential For New Projects And Solutions For The Development Of Autonomous Vessels In The Global Market

ABS and HD Hyundai signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly deepen projects for autonomous vessels, marking a great start to 2023 with potential ventures for the coming years.

The entire scope of the memorandum is based on the strategic agreement signed between both companies in 2022, in which ABS worked with HD Hyundai’s subsidiaries, Avikus and Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE).

The cooperation period served for the development of various solutions aimed at autonomous vessel projects between the companies.

One of the key outcomes of the strategic agreement was the operation of the 180,000 cubic meter gas carrier “Prism Courage,” which sailed for half of its journey in the Pacific Ocean autonomously.

Christopher Wiernicki, president and CEO of ABS, stated that this journey reinforced the potential of autonomous vessels in the global market, as well as the expertise of both companies in seeking new projects in the sector.

Meanwhile, Ki-sun Chung, president and CEO of HD Hyundai, highlighted: “HD Hyundai is one of the most advanced companies in the development and commercialization of autonomous navigation technology. We are excited to expand our work with ABS, a leader in supporting autonomous project initiatives.”

“Through this agreement with ABS, we hope to advance even further in autonomous vessel technology that will support autonomous engine room operations, as well as safety management,” concluded the CEO.

The expectation of the new agreement signed between the companies is that both will begin to work together on the development of new autonomous vessel projects in the first quarter of 2023.

The automation of these operations ensures a future that is not only more modern and technological but also more committed to the safety and logistical efficiency of transport.
