Acelen Invests in Sustainability and Achieves Zero Carbon Footprint in All Steps of Maritime Logistics for Oil Import with the VLCC Super Tanker
Acelen has made a significant contract in the national oil and gas market. This involves the importation of 2 million barrels of oil from Africa, carried out using a VLCC super tanker contracted by the company.

Petrobras advances 4.6% with rising oil prices and the dollar, reigniting the debate on macro risks, pricing policy, and fiscal impact in Brazil.
This is because the company achieved a zero carbon footprint in all steps of maritime logistics for the operation: during the ship’s loading; in the transportation from Angola to Brazil; and in the transshipment to smaller vessels at the Madre de Deus Terminal in Bahia’s Recôncavo region for processing at the Mataripe Refinery.
Carbon credits will be produced from a sustainable management initiative at the Salvador Landfill, utilizing the gas emitted during the burning of solid waste for energy generation.
Acelen thus becomes the first Brazilian company to invest in carbon neutrality through this specific project.
The forecast for the company is that 3,639 tons of carbon generated during the oil importation will be neutralized through credits from the Smartie Carbon platform, issued by Battre’s Sustainable Valorization Unit, part of the Solví Group, a leader in Brazil in clean energy generation from biogas.
The Vice President of Commercial, Trading and Shipping at Acelen, Cristiano da Costa, emphasized the importance of the carbon neutrality initiative in the operation: “This contract opens new perspectives for Acelen, which has been operating following the tripod of excellence, efficiency, and innovation, and reflects our commitment to socio-environmental responsibility from a local project that brings benefits to the region’s population.”
Learn More About the VLCC Super Tanker Contracted by the Company for Oil Import with Zero Carbon Footprint
The VLCC super tanker contracted by Acelen measures a total of 333 meters in length, has a gross tonnage of 316,000 tons, and an incredible transport capacity of up to 2 million barrels of oil, fully utilized in the company’s import operation.
For large-scale oil movement operations with the VLCC super tanker, the draft reaches a depth of 22 meters.
The operation with Acelen marked the first time that an oil tanker of this size arrived in the state of Bahia, in addition to reducing freight costs by over 30%, as the transported quantity affects the price per unit/barrel.
The ship also consumes less fuel during operations, reducing gas emissions into the atmosphere with just one crossing.
Acelen now intends to continue investing and working on sustainability linked to the logistics of its future operations.
