Drowning in Mongaguá Occurred During Family Rescue Attempt
The tragic episode began on Saturday afternoon (3), around 6:35 PM, at Itaoca Beach in Mongaguá.
According to information gathered, the soldier entered the sea upon realizing that his older brother was having difficulty returning to the sand.
The relative managed to get out of the water, but Arthur disappeared. The family, who lives in the capital of São Paulo, was spending the weekend on the coast for leisure when the accident occurred.
The young man’s father became ill due to anxiety, fainted, and required medical attention at the Central Emergency Room.
Action of the Maritime Firefighters Group in Rescue
The Maritime Firefighters Group reported that it mobilized teams immediately after the call.
During the initial searches, lifeguards entered the sea and spotted Arthur, but the young man sank and disappeared shortly after.
Meanwhile, the rescue on the coast of São Paulo followed safety protocols and maritime scanning.
The firefighters’ base is located about 500 meters from the disappearance point, which allowed a quick response, although sea conditions complicated the rescue.
Brother’s Account and Dynamics of the Accident
In a statement to the lifeguards, the soldier’s brother reported that he was drowning when Arthur entered the sea to help him.
Amid the waves, he could not understand how the younger brother passed by him and ended up in a deeper area.
According to his account, a wave helped the brother return to the sand.
Noticing that Arthur could not get out, he ran to ask for help from the firefighters, starting the search that lasted until the body was confirmed to be found in Praia Grande.
Brazilian Army Supports Family
In an official statement, the Brazilian Army reported that it received confirmation of the soldier’s death on Sunday night, following the identification.
“The Army is providing all necessary support to the Soldier’s family at this time,” the institution stated.
Arthur served in the 20th Light Field Artillery Group (20th GAC L) and was on leave due to the New Year holiday.
The unit sent a soldier to Mongaguá to support the family and maintain contact with the security and rescue authorities involved.
Rescue on the Coast of São Paulo Reinforces Warning to Beachgoers
Cases like the drowning in Mongaguá reinforce the importance of respecting lifeguard guidelines and observing sea conditions before entering the water.
Rip currents and strong waves are common in sections of the São Paulo coast, especially during busier periods.
The rescue on the coast of São Paulo, conducted by the Maritime Firefighters Group, follows strict standards, but authorities warn that prevention remains the main way to avoid similar tragedies.
Emotion and Investigation
The death of the Brazilian Army soldier caused distress among family, friends, and fellow soldiers.
The investigation will follow legal procedures to clarify the circumstances of the death, while the family receives psychological and institutional support.
Thus, the body found in Praia Grande marks the end of days of anguish, but also reignites the debate on beach safety and the importance of rapid and coordinated action by rescue agencies on the São Paulo coast.
