Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio de Janeiro have, respectively, the most expensive gasoline prices in Brazil. According to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the average price of gasoline in these states is close to R$ 8

After the readjustment in fuel prices by Petrobras throughout Brazil in March, the price of gasoline is already close to R$ 8 in some states of Brazil. According to the ANP, in Piauí, a liter of gasoline is costing R$ 7,992. Next is Rio Grande do Norte and Rio de Janeiro, with a liter of gasoline costing BRL 7,921 and BRL 7,731, in that order.

In the last week, the average price of a liter of common gasoline in Brazil had a percentage increase of 8,6%. In the current week, the ANP verified the price of gasoline at R$ 7,26, compared to R$ 6,68, the price of gasoline registered in the previous week.

For Gilberto Braga, an economist at IBMEC, factors such as ICMS and freight costs influence the price of a liter of gasoline that arrives at gas stations, in addition to explaining the difference between states.

The economist says that what explains the value of gasoline in Rio de Janeiro is the ICMS, as Rio de Janeiro is the state that has the largest production of oil Brazil and has more than one refinery, so the distance compared to other states is smaller, between production, refining and consumption. But still gasoline is very expensive.

According to CNN, the price of the cheapest liter of gasoline in Brazil was found in the states of Amapá, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, in that order. According to the ANP, in these states, the average price of a liter of gasoline was less than R$ 7.
