Lava Jato's BRL 2,6 billion fund will go to the Amazon and education. The money was settled between Petrobras and the US Department of Justice.

The presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the Attorney General of the National Treasury, José Levi, the PGR, Raquel Dodge, and the AGU, André Mendonça, signed an agreement that allows the allocation of R$ 1 billion from the Petrobras fund to combat deforestation and fires in the Amazon, this Thursday, September 05th. On the last 23rd, the state company was summoned to save the Amazon.

Then it was the turn of PGR, who sent a statement to the Supreme Court asking that part of the resources paid by Petrobras as a result of the agreement signed with the United States be allocated to combating the fires in the Amazon.

The agreement signed yesterday, the 05th, will be submitted to the approval of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, who facilitated meetings on the allocation of the funds and is the rapporteur of the action that discusses it in the Court. The amount of R$ 1 billion includes the transfer of R$ 430 million for joint actions with the states of the region.

In addition to the value for the Amazon, the term also provides for the allocation of R$ 1,6 billion to education.

According to the AGU, the use of the funds will be supervised by the TCU and the CGU. It will be up to the Union to prepare a report for Petrobras on the resources received and their effective application.

“It is an important moment, in which resources will finally be allocated to actions of public interest in important areas to promote citizenship in Brazil and the defense of the Amazon, a Brazilian heritage that is also very important. The agreement allows the funds to be immediately made available to the Federal government”, said Raquel Dodge when signing the agreement.

The Advocate General of the Union, André Mendonça, celebrated the signing of the term and stated that the signature allows the “fair, correct and serving the public interest” allocation of the funds.

Petrobras will not have its activities terminated in Bahia and the Northeast, as has been announced
