While Russia dominates the global wheat market, Brazil emerges as an unexpected competitor in the Cerrado, offering grain available in July and August when stocks in the Northern Hemisphere are at their lowest point of the year.
-
China returned almost 20 Brazilian ships with soybeans, but now everything could change: the country that buys 80% of the grain is considering relaxing regulations after impurities held up shipments of thousands of tons and caused million-dollar losses.

The drought of the cerrado was considered an enemy of wheat, but Brazilian scientists turned the lack of rain into a competitive advantage by creating a grain with quality that is already attracting the attention of international mills around the world.
According to the Secretary of Rural Development, Vilson Covatti, the investment represents the State’s commitment to dialogue and social participation.
“Our goal is to ensure that regional demands are transformed into concrete actions to strengthen rural areas”, highlighted the manager during the signing of agreements held on October 7.
Among the financed actions are the acquisition of vehicles, agricultural implements, and structures for food processing, essential items to increase productivity and reduce costs on small properties.
Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization and Support for Local Agroindustries
The allocation of Popular Consultation resources reflects a strategy of sustainable agricultural mechanization aimed at efficiency and growth of small properties.
Municipalities such as Cruz Alta and São Martinho da Serra stand out among the beneficiaries. Cruz Alta will receive R$ 217,000 to modernize food processing equipment, including an electric honey centrifuge, turbo oven, and dough and bread molding machine.
São Martinho da Serra received R$ 234,000 to purchase two new vehicles to support local productive activities.
Other cities benefiting, such as Catuípe, Derrubadas, Guarani das Missões, and Monte Alegre dos Campos, will allocate the funds to agricultural mechanization, promoting agroindustrialization and rural infrastructure improvements, enhancing autonomy and quality of life for farming families.
Family Farming in Rio Grande do Sul and Popular Participation in the State Budget
Family farming in Rio Grande do Sul also stands out in the context of popular participation in the state budget, one of the pillars of the Popular Consultation created in 1988.
The process allows citizens to choose, through voting, up to three regional proposals that will receive resources from the state government.
This year, the voting for the 2025/2026 Popular Consultation takes place from October 6 to 10, allowing the population to indicate priorities for the next budget cycle.
This tool consolidates the concept of participatory governance, bringing rural communities closer to the public authorities and ensuring that investments meet the real demands of each region.
Strengthening Productive Chains and Integrated Local Development
The agreements contribute to strengthening rural productive chains, enhancing families’ capacity to add value to their products and compete in regional markets.
The public policy consolidates the role of family farming as an essential driver of sustainable local development, promoting employment, income, and food security.
With practical actions, such as the acquisition of agricultural implements and support vehicles, the state government reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the fields, ensuring that the results of the Popular Consultation continue to transform the daily lives of rural communities in Rio Grande do Sul.
