Detrans Across The Country Warn About Scams Involving Fake Text Messages About CNH. Discover How To Identify And Avoid This Crime, Keeping Your CNH Safe

In recent days, a new type of scam has been frightening drivers all over Brazil. The fraud, which occurs via SMS, threatens to suspend the driver’s license of those who do not regularize a pending issue.

A message warning about a traffic fine instructs the victim to access a link to avoid the blocking of the document. However, what many do not know is that by clicking on the link, personal data can be stolen by criminals.

One of The Victims of The Driver’s License Scam

Pedro Marinho, an advertising professional from Vitória, was one of the victims who almost fell for the scam. He received a warning message about a fine but soon realized that something was wrong. “I still have the provisional license. I was scared because, during this period, any fine can result in the loss of my license,” Pedro shared. However, he quickly grew suspicious and avoided accessing the link, which saved him from a potential fraud.

The scam starts with an SMS saying that the driver’s license is in the process of suspension and that to avoid the blocking, the person needs to access the sent link. Upon opening the page, the victim is redirected to a fake website that mimics the official Detran platform and even displays personal data such as name, CPF, date of birth, and mother’s name.

The fraud continues with a false notice that the license is about to be suspended, and the victim is instructed to pay a fee to regularize the situation.

The National Association of Detrans has already recorded cases of this scam in 18 states and the Federal District, and various regional traffic departments have been speaking out, warning the public about the fraud. Authorities clarify that they do not send notifications of license suspension via SMS, email, or messaging apps.

During suspension processes, all notifications are sent by mail, published in the Official Gazette, and on the Department of Transit’s website,” stated Luana Amélia de Abreu Teixeira, director of the State Traffic Coordination of Minas Gerais.

Precautions To Avoid Falling For The Scam

It is important to emphasize that if you receive a suspicious message, you should ignore it. Do not click on links or provide your personal information. Instead, seek official information on the Detrans’ websites or contact local traffic departments.

To protect yourself, information security expert Silvia Calmon suggests a simple tip: “Always research the scam. Look for terms like ‘driver’s license scam’ or ‘Detran registration update’ in search engines. This can help identify frauds and prevent you from falling into traps.”

Moreover, it is essential for the public to be aware that online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and caution is the best way to ensure the security of your personal data. Whenever you receive any suspicious message, always be skeptical and seek information from reliable sources.
