According to the state-owned company, “the prices for gasoline and diesel sold to distributors are based on the import parity price, formed by the international quotes of these products plus the costs that importers would incur, such as transportation and port fees.”
The gasoline and diesel sold to distributors are different from the products at the gas station. They are type A fuels, meaning gasoline before its combination with ethanol and diesel without the addition of biodiesel. The products sold at the pumps to the final consumer are made from type A mixed with biofuels. The prices disclosed by the state refer to type A products.
On these prices, the profit margin of distributors and gas stations, taxes that vary from one state to another, labor costs, among other variables will apply.
