Taking a big step towards the progress of the economy and sustainability of the state, the Government of Piauí will implement a project that has 8 mini solar power plants, assured by Aneel, generating jobs and impacting the lives of about 90 thousand people

The Government of Piauí is one of those that most invested in the supply of renewable and environmentally responsible energy in Brazil, the trend is to continue growing in this sector, according to the report released last month by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). Through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), the government of Piauí intends to build 8 mini solar power plants, each of which will have a production capacity of 5 MW. The expectation is that the mini solar power plants will come into operation by the end of this year (2021) generating new jobs.

Mini solar power plants in Piauí

According to Viviane Moura, superintendent of the PPP Program in Piauí, many families will be directly impacted by the mini plants installed in partnership with the government of Piauí and confirmed by Aneel, in all, more than 90 thousand people will benefit. It is estimated that the investments will generate jobs before and after completion of the works. Mini solar power plants, called solar park, are a system that uses energy from the sun designed to produce high voltage electricity for distribution.

An innovative point of the mini plants installed by the government of Piauí and assured by Aneel is that they will have the technology of Tracker, which positions the panels “following” the sunlight during the day, making the production of mini solar power plants about 30% higher. With an investment of R$ 150 million, the plants can generate, in addition to job opportunities, a 23% reduction in State expenses and per year will provide savings of more than R$ 10 million in the cost of electricity.

The following companies were responsible for the construction, operation, maintenance and management of the mini solar power plants, which will be installed by the government of Piauí: Consórcio Energia Sustentável, Consórcio Gm-Energia and the company from Goiás, Brenge Par Engenharia e Participação.

Piauí, a leading state in renewable energy

Piauí is one of the most prominent Brazilian states when it comes to clean energy, especially wind and solar energy. According to Aneel, the state will account for the highest percentage of all states this year (2021), with an expansion of 190,35 MW in its energy matrix. Just behind Piauí are the states of Bahia with 155 MW and Rio Grande do Norte with 151 MW in its energy matrix.

Creating jobs through solar energy

The expectation for the year 2021 is that the photovoltaic solar source will bring about 147 thousand new jobs to Brazilians, according to data from the Associação Brasileira de Energia Solar Fotovoltaica (ABSOLUTE). The data also indicate that the minimum investment in the sector this year will be 22,6 billion, adding the segments of distributed and centralized generation.

A large part of the jobs generated will come from distributed generation, which is primarily responsible for more than 118 jobs in Brazil. For GD, the estimate is that it will obtain a growth of 90% compared to the total already installed by 2020, moving from 4,4GW to almost double, 8,3GW.
