Preventive maintenance and daily inspections ensure the proper functioning of tires and extend their lifespan, reducing the risk of accidents.
The National Association of Tire Industry (ANIP) supports the 12th edition of the Yellow May campaign, aimed at promoting traffic safety. This year, the movement led by the National Road Safety Observatory has the theme “Human Mobility, Human Responsibility.” Throughout the month, various activities will be held to raise awareness among drivers, pedestrians, and passengers about the importance of respecting traffic laws and adopting measures that contribute to the reduction of accidents and deaths.
In 2024 alone, more than 6,000 people died and about 84,000 were injured in traffic accidents on federal highways in Brazil, according to data from the Statistical Yearbook of the Federal Highway Police (PRF). In the state of São Paulo, according to data from Infosiga, the fatality monitoring system of the State Department of Transit (Detran), there were about 6,100 fatalities in traffic accidents last year.

ANIP emphasizes the importance of tires as an essential component for traffic safety, being responsible for ensuring road grip, vehicle stability, and effective braking. All products manufactured by the tire industry based in Brazil use advanced technology and are certified by regulatory agencies, such as Inmetro, ensuring efficiency, durability, and safety for consumers.
To contribute to a safer traffic environment, ANIP gathered tips for tire care for various types of vehicles. Check it out:
Passenger Tires:
– Noise and vibrations while driving may indicate problems with the tires or suspension. Ignoring these signs can be costly.
– Avoid impacts with curbs, potholes, and ditches. They can cause internal damage that may not be immediately visible.
– If the steering wheel vibrates or the car pulls to one side, there may be a lack of alignment and balance. Preventive maintenance is essential. Besides safety, you save on tire wear.
Motorcycle Tires:
– Check the wear of the tread patterns. This can compromise grip, especially on wet pavement.
– Cracks and bubbles are warning signs that the tire may fail at any moment. If you notice any abnormalities, seek to replace the product immediately.
– Avoid carrying more weight than recommended. This stresses the suspension and tires, reducing their lifespan.
Heavy Vehicle Tires:
– Visual inspection should be routine for truck and bus tires. Long journeys require special attention to product maintenance.
– Check for cuts, bubbles, irregular wear, and objects stuck in the tires. The sooner you detect any abnormalities, the safer it is to drive the vehicle.
– Trucks and buses require proper calibration for each axle and load. Check frequently, preferably when cold.
– Rotate tire positions according to axle type and application. This prevents irregular wear and extends product lifespan.
About ANIP
Founded in 1960, the National Association of Tire Industry (ANIP) represents the tire and inner tube industry based in Brazil, comprising 11 companies and 21 factories in the country. The sector directly employs 32,000 people, and considering the entire supply chain, about 500,000 people indirectly.
ANIP has been working on the National Program for the Collection and Disposal of Used Tires since 1999, and in 2007, national tire manufacturers established Reciclanip, an organization dedicated exclusively to this work in the country. Reciclanip is a reference in reverse logistics, being the largest in Latin America in the tire sector, serving more than 1,000 collection points distributed throughout the country.
