The Public Hearing Will Be Held for Antaq to Receive Contributions for the Container Terminal Leasing Process Located at the Port of Santos, An Essential Step for the Privatization of the Port of Santos Throughout 2022

The National Agency for Waterway Transport (Antaq) has extended the public hearing until May 31 for receiving contributions for the bidding of the lease of the container terminal located at the Port of Santos. This action was set to conclude last Tuesday (04/19), but due to requests from companies like Maersk, the deadline for the terminal concession process was postponed. However, this hearing is essential for the privatization of the Port of Santos, one of the main goals of the agency and the Ministry of Infrastructure for 2022.

Public Hearing for Receiving Contributions for the Leasing Process of the Port of Santos Terminal

Antaq is increasingly invested in the privatization processes of Brazilian ports, and for this, certain port structures need to undergo the leasing process first, such as the STS 10 container terminal located at the Port of Santos, which will go through the process and be granted to a private company as a way to foster new infrastructure investments for the port complex in the coming years.

Thus, the bidding process for the container terminal is not yet finalized and must go through new steps, but the agency aims to accelerate these bureaucracies. Therefore, Antaq held on April 19, at 10 am, the public hearing 6/2022 (CLICK HERE TO WATCH FULL) to gather contributions for the bidding of the STS 10 area, as a way to ensure a more efficient continuity of the process and obtain collaboration from port sector representatives for the leasing of the port’s container terminal.

Days after the hearing, the current Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio Cunha Filho, continues to hold meetings with Santos Port Authority throughout the morning of this Friday (04/22). On his social media, he made the following comment about his day with the Port of Santos representatives: “On the way to the largest port in Latin America, the Port of Santos. We will visit important terminals that will be leased by the Government of Brazil, the STS 10 and the STS 53, and advance with the planning for the privatization of this grand asset, which will also take place this year.”

Leasing of Container Terminal STS 10 Will Be Essential to Attract Investments to the Port and Collaborate with the Privatization Process of the Site

The STS 10 is a container terminal located in the Saboó region and contains more than 600 thousand square meters of area, currently divided into 5 different areas, but the leasing process will allow the entire STS 10 to be unified into a single container terminal in the future. Furthermore, it will have a layout in line with the world’s major container terminals, increasing the port’s capacity by more than 1.9 million TEUs.

This is the largest auction ever held at the Port of Santos and involves investments of around R$ 3.29 billion, being essential for attracting new infrastructure plans for the site. Thus, works will be carried out to construct a 1,200-meter dock, dredging in the berthing area, as well as building a yard of approximately 350 thousand square meters in the area. With this, leasing the STS 10 container terminal will be essential to attract new attention to the Port of Santos and, consequently, contribute to investors participating in the privatization process of the site this year.
