Before Elon Musk became one of the most influential names in technology, he had a very different way of making money. During his college years, instead of getting a conventional job, he and his roommate, Adeo Ressi, decided to turn their house into a highly profitable underground business. And it all started with an unusual idea: underground parties at an affordable price.

This little-known story shows a curious side of the billionaire. Elon Musk already had the DNA of an entrepreneur, even before dreaming of rockets and electric cars. But would anyone imagine that one of the world’s greatest visionaries started his journey running a college nightclub?

The Beginning of an Entrepreneurial Empire

In the early 90s, Elon Musk was just a student at the University of Pennsylvania trying to pay the bills. Instead of taking the traditional route and getting a part-time job, he and his friend Adeo Ressi had a bold idea: to turn their rented house into a secret nightclub for students.

The house had 10 rooms and quickly became one of the most sought-after places for college parties. They charged a nominal fee of US$ 5 for entry, but the volume of people made their revenue impressive. In a single night, they could make up to US$ 2,500 – enough money to cover rent and still leave a good profit.

The Secret Club That Became a Goldmine

At that time, Elon Musk was a student at the University of Pennsylvania, studying physics and economics. Besides the parties to pay rent, he was already interested in technology, studying intensely, and thinking of ways to create innovative businesses.

To ensure the operation was a success, Musk and Ressi created an exclusive environment. The house was transformed with neon lights, vibrant decoration, and an underground nightclub atmosphere. The place was discreet, but at the same time, it became one of the most coveted among students.

While most college students went to enjoy themselves, Musk had a different approach: he didn’t drink, didn’t participate in the party, and spent most of his time overseeing the event. He made sure everything was under control, counted the money, and maintained security. This already showed his strategic mindset and his ability to run a business efficiently.

Elon Musk’s Role as Club Manager

Even in a party environment, Elon Musk stood out for his absolute focus. While hundreds of people enjoyed the night, he was attentive to the details of the business. He was almost a “CEO” of an underground nightclub.

One of the most curious stories happened when his mother, Maye Musk, came to visit him and discovered the scheme. She ended up helping at the event and even took charge of the coat check. The detail? She kept a kitchen knife nearby, just in case.

Expanding to a 14-Room House

With the success of the parties, Elon Musk and Ressi decided to take an even bigger step. They moved to a house with 14 rooms, further increasing the size and scope of the business. Now, the space allowed for even bigger parties, more guests, and consequently, more money.

This growth showed that Musk not only identified opportunities, but also knew how to scale them. Even though it was just a college nightclub, this experience taught valuable lessons about management, logistics, and planning.
