Days Away from the Announcement of the Bidding Results for Constructing Corvettes, Consortia and Shipyards Must Be Aware of the New Plans of the Brazilian Navy
Just days away from knowing the result of the bidding for constructing four Tamandaré Class Corvettes (CCTs), as the date of 03/26 has been set, the finalist consortia of the bidding will be informed by the Brazilian Navy of the intention to launch new bids.
A broader planning of the Brazilian Navy reveals the intention to have a minimum of 12 escort ships by the end of the 2030s and, in the long term, to reach an ideal number of 18 of these vessels.
The Brazilian Navy will not promise, at this time, to the finalist consortia, that it will contract new ships, but the winner of the Corvette bidding will be a strong favorite for these other two contracts.
The expectation is that the first batch will follow the same mold as this CCT bidding, that is, corvettes or light frigates, with some project evolutions being implemented.

In a possible second batch to be manufactured in the country, there are considerations for larger ships, such as frigates of 6,000 tons displacement.
These batches would be part of the resumption of PROSUPER (Surface Vessel Procurement Program), which has been stalled since 2014.
By revealing its fleet renewal plans to the finalists of the CCT bidding, the Navy wants them to understand that it can indeed be a horizon of opportunities and that better prices now can bring future profits.
It remains to be seen if foreign shipyards will believe in this and invest their business portfolios in this promise without guarantees from the Brazilian Navy.
Fleet Renewal
A survey conducted by the Brazilian Navy found that in 15 years it will be necessary to rebuild, in addition to the escort squadron, its support squadron, which includes transport and supply vessels, and its Mine Countermeasure Force, in Bahia and Itaguaí, which, as it is internally commented, will be the new Naval Base of the Submarine Command.
Another bet from the Navy for the future would be a new order, so that by 2035, it can include another dock ship in its fleet, which could be of the Makassar class.
